SW Episode III - Reign of the Dark Side (* unfinished project *) — Page 11

On the episode "Grievous Intrigue" of Season 2, you have Grievous delivering the line: "The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi ends here!" wich I think its a great line for him to say during the movie... but... that scene of the TV series might have too much noise and music.

I have to agree with Angel on the white staffs... i like them. It makes them feel like a more usual weapon, like a subsitute for lightsabers, but not as cool as lightsabers.

Okay, I have to agree seeing it in motion really adds to it. I like it.

I wasn't for it at first. But I vote for white.

TMBTM's silent edits had white sabers (since it was all in B&W) and I found it mesmerizing.

White all the way!!! It feels more OTish. Red is overused for badguys.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

That silent head twitch by Grievous before his laugh looks a bit odd.  And I vote for white.

IIRC, Adywan mentioned in another thread a while back that The Clone Wars is broadcast with voice and sound effects in the centre channel and the music in the others (unlike the films, where the music bleeds into the centre channel) so you can isolate it from the music completely.

The way they've mastered the sound for that is a fan editor's wet dream. I just wish they'd do it for the movies too. So unless there are a lot of sound effects as he's saying the line, there shouldn't be a problem, as long as you get hold of the audio from the broadcast rather than the DVD. :)

Also, I'd like to know how the electricity on the staffs is recoloured. And in turn am wondering why this method cannot be used to just recolour the lightsabers as opposed to re-rotoscoping from scratch. That's always confused me. lol

^ i agree - but if it's between white or red i say white.

I just realised, if you are going to eliminate the whole backstory of Grievous collecting lightsabers, at the begining of the movie when he captures Obi-Wan and Anakin there is the dialogue:

_Your lightsabers will make a fine adition to my collection

_Not this time, and this time you wont escape.

You take out the line of Grievous (so he is just disarming them, not collecting lightsabers), but you have there a great oportunity for adding a good line. A good line that has to be answered with a "Not this time, and this time you wont escape". Helping that idea of Obi-Wan and Grievous having a backstory of fights. You know... something like:

_Finally! (S02E10) The story of Obi Wan Kenobi ends here... (S02E09)

_Not this time, and this time you wont escape.

Also, on that same episode (S02E09 Grievous Intrigue) you have the lines "Kenobi! What a surprise! I supose you came here to bring me to "justice"", "So, Kenobi, is everything going as planned?", "You wouldnt come here without a plan, and you wouldnt come here alone" Wich might be useful for Utapau.

Isnt an episode that these two are fighting with some moral values such humans against machines story?

We may want to look on that. We dont need references of a backstory so much as something that the viewer can think..

Like redletter media said "things might sounds trivial but we never see these connections we have to be told about them."

So assuming that lucas had in mind we know that clone wars could fill the gaps and create this backstory still we never see a sh*t in the movies.

From the other hand a character who doesnt talk isnt much as a timefiller right?

So instead of these two i suggest to put some moral values like i said above..

well its an option :)

White wins my vote too.

As a side-note Grievous with red sabers could be used for people who want the Separatists to be more ambiguous.

Did he kill Sith to get these?

You could have a mixture in an alternate version suggesting he collects from Sith and from Jedi who have attempted to kill him.

I'm voting white... Still want to know how you did it.

I vote white also!  :D

And the red sabers are interesting indeed. I like loosing that dead Jedi saber concept that didn't do much for me...

Although, I thought I'd throw another idea out there for you to consider...I came up with this a while ago...the basic idea is that GG is indeed a coward and runs from the Jedi as often as he can:

I think I'd vote white too. As for grievous' sabers, I'm all for him having his own red set, but I'm wondering if it's possible to change the handles. Not only are they all different (which doesn't sit right with me if we're to ignore the "trophies from dead jedi explanation" but anakin and obi's sabers are there amongst them. Moreso, and I forget where I saw this, but the sabers change colour from blue to green in respect to their corresponding handles (obviously this isn't an issue in your cut, but worth mentioning all the same) What are the guys at ILM paid for exactly?

Just had a slightly bonkers idea.

What if Anakin lost his saber to Grievous at the beginning of the film and grabbed back another saber in the fight on the bridge.

And in this scene Obi-Wan retrieves the Anakin saber he will later give to Luke.

That way you could have Vader fight Obi-Wan with a red saber and still have a blue saber for Obi-wan to give to Luke at a later date.

Not a bad idea. It would be difficult to work in though, wouldn't it?

Genius! - it also means we don't need the horrible scene later on of Kenobi just standing there while Anakin burns, and walking off with his Lightsaber.

And this way the Saber that Luke later inherits is truly the weapon of a Jedi and wasn't used to slay fellow Jedi!!! [and non Jedi]

Please at least consider this, Bobgarcia74

I'm liking the idea, but how could it be achieved? We'd need footage of Obi picking a saber up from Grievous' broken body, or to somehow imply that that's what he does.

Author
Time

The only way to achieve this would be:

_Making Anakin force grab one of Grievous Red Lightsabers (wich will be Darth Vader's lightsaber) by mistake.

_Changing the shot of Obi-Wan grabing the lightsaber from the floor of Mustafar to the floor of the Utapau landing platform. Since they dont see each other again, there is no way he can give it back.

BAD THINGS_

_It seems forced and convinient

_It makes the situation of lightsabers a bit confusing because Obi-Wan just lost his... It would be: Obi Wan looses his lightsaber, picks up Anakin lightsaber, and then he picks his back again.

_Why wouldnt Obi-Wan or Grievous use Anakin's lightsaber during the whole fight.

_Since the red lightsaber is a symbol of the dark side, feels like Anakin turns to the dark side by mistake.

_The lightsaber hilt will still be Anakins, not Vaders.

GOOD THINGS_

_Anakin will have blue and red before killing Dooku, and just after THAT he will only use red lightsaber (pretty symbolic too)

_Anakin will use a red lightsaber to kill Mace Windu

_You wont need Anakin manufacturing a red lightsaber for the final Mustafar battle.
