Normally Lando would but he is busy prepping the Hyperdrive which he thinks will work.
But even so they still have a lot of space to maneuver in, Lando isn't Han but if ROTJ shows anything he is almost Han and Han managed to dodge Star Destroyers and fighters and still program the Hyperdrive.
But having a couple of capital ships blocking off some of their escape and fighters pressing behind them while attempting to program the computer would put them into position where they would have to push forward until they could jump to light speed.
By the time they know they can't it's already too late.
Bingo, you don't need more Star Destroyers in that shot. That is over kill for that circumstance. The only thing that sequence could really benefit from is more Tie-fighters following the falcon. And until Ady can build the 3 foot model he's going to do, it would be difficult to pull off convincingly and not look like a composite.
Suspense is more tangible if the circumstances are more believable.
Star Wars is a fantasy film but the characters still exist in a defined world with rules.
Thats not necessarily true. They didn't send capital ships after Han in ANH when they escaped the death star. The only time it actually happened was prior to the asteroid feld sequence in ESB.
