GORMALLY PREFERS IMPS.

Sexual preferences aside, I don't think the music used in a little sample edit is worth all this non-consequential filibustering. The visual impact is what we should be worried about at this juncture.

Anyway, I prefer brunettes.

Lots to love in this SSWR.

I'm not sure if Obi-Wan would be so flippant about an unfortunate hot pursuit caused loss of life though. I was thinking more knocks and near misses than actual crashes...(the poor sods who die when the Anakin bashes into the control tower in ROTS might have been realistic but I'm sure that Anakin and Obi-Wan weren't cracking a joke about it).

Yes I think you're right about this. The last thing we need is for it to look like the Jedi don't care about others! ;)

Some of the music changes I like...not too keen on "Here They Come" being used in this context (I was a bit miffed when it was used so freely in the Jabba sail barge scene).

Yeah, when it comes to music i'm very impatient about picking out cues. I usually just slap it in there because I don't know what I'm doing! :P

The changeling face is something that should be removed all together (hasn't this been done in a fan edit already...or did I dream it?).

Yeah I think I've seen that somehwere. Totally agree. I just don't have a great way of pulling this off right now...

Nice to see a more sympathetic Anakin all by removing the second shouty line (he isn't a complete nut job here).

Yes I've seen this done before and I loved it. Had to cut it too! ;)

The bar isn't really missed (though it does add a bit of detail to city life it's not a location where anything pertinent to the story takes place) but we are still left with a Fett who needn't have been there (a bounty hunter hiring a bounty hunter seems a bit daft).

I can't see a way around that other than having Fett track Sam earlier and try to bump her off as a rival for the bounty.

Maybe he could fire and miss just before she makes her escape bid in her speeder.

Still great work and full of ideas.

Hmm...that could work. As far as Zam dying it could be due to the car crash (or lightsaber wound)...

Thanks for the great feedback!

awesome video SSWR! love the reduction of the fall, and the music additions too. did i detect some recoloring?

Ha! no recoloring...I tried in a couple of shots but it didn't work out very well...don't know what I'm doing there either! :P

SSWR, I've been toying with this idea yesterday myself, almost frame for frame. How weird!

I'd previously cut it the same as the Phantom Editor (they just follow Zam to the club) but I've started thinking that excising ALL the action from that scene was a bad choice, so decided to keep Anakin jumping down (only making it a more plausible distance)

Great minds eh!

Yeah I agree. There are some great pieces to keep there. Can't wait to see your version! :D

brash_stryker said:

I should probably clarify that the way I've cut it is almost the same as yours but the main difference is that it doesn't have anakin's head and the speeder in the foreground during Zam's speeder's flyby (which I'd considered doing, but didn't know how and had no idea it could possibly look as good as that!)

Where did you grab the foreground shot from? Was it composited/keyframed in with after effects?

I did it all with photoshop and premiere. I think I just found the biggest peice of the speeder I could find (regardless of what angle) and used that! Thanks for the feedback on that particular shot...I wondered if I had pulled it off! :D

Thanks again guys!

I think adding Dooku to TPM and the general to AOTC makes a lot of sense.

GORMALLY JUST GOT YOUR JOKE.  GORMALLY LOOKS FORWARD TO YOUR "ENTERTAINMENT" IN THE NEXT LIFE.

Author
Time

Agreed, but I would limit both appearances to cameos. We could have Grievous in the war room on Geonosis, but save his introduction for ROTS.

I made some mock ups of adding Dooku to Qui-Gon's funeral, but they are buried somewhere in this thread. The idea was that he looks at the building where the funeral is held, says something like "Goodbye old friend" and sighs. Nothing really spectacular, but I think it's workable, and not too intrusive in the movie. Adding him to the Council might work too, I think that has been suggested before.

Author
Time

Whilst I always kind of liked your idea of Dooku appearing at the end of Episode 1, won't first time viewers be like "who is this dude?" seeing as he'd be introduced to us at the end of the film, without even being hinted at prior.

Author
Time

If he was introduced as a council member via a hologram and then at Qui-Gon's funeral it could work, especially if dialogue could be fabricated from Mr Lee's large body of work.

I agree that if dialogue was cobbled together to make him stand out, it could work, but simply having him on the council wouldn't. You'd be just as confused seeing Dooku at the end as you would Eeth Koth....or Plo Koon.....or god forbid Yarael Poof!

Author
Time

Oh yes, Yarael Poof is there any minority group Lucas won't seek out to offend (by accident of course)?

I'm posting this here as well as in my own thread as it's a radical idea, and most probably beyond the scope of my abilities or resources.

I've always hated the Kaminoans. The way they look, the way they talk, everything about them. Plus they sound too human for something so alien.

In my eyes, a society of cloners shown to a human audience should be humans themselves, but drastically enhanced/altered due to them having played god to such an extent. It would have more of an impact if they're something alien, but not so alien that we don't care.

I'm imagining very tall (obi wan must look up to talk to them) grey/sallow skin, something replacing/covering their mouths (as all their sustenance would be supplied artificially).

Basically like a very tall Darth Malak from Kotor, but without the tattoos or evilness. And in some kind of sterile looking jumpsuit rather than sith armour.

http://www.planetbaldursgate.com/mridalmn/starwars/mMalak_500.jpg

This would require filming live action footage, and compositing it over the existing kaminoans. I wouldn't foresee a huge problem with the scene where they're sat in the chairs as everything looks so hazy and fake that compositing can't make it look any worse, but I'm wondering if it's even possible for the corridor scenes.

I always though that there was something shark like about stormtrooper helmets (they are obviously meant to look a bit skeletal too but the slit slat mouth and the jet black eyes do look a bit like a shark).

If Kamino is a water world having them look a bit shark-like would make sense.

Author
Time

Not to mention the fins on the original clonetrooper helmets.

Author
Time

Very rough around the edges but you get the basic idea, if you put some clothes on it and gave it a very civil nature which defied it's look it could be an interesting concept :

Sharkaminoan

Author

Nice mockup, Bingo! However I still think making them essentially human (but drastically altered) has more of an impact, as the audience can see how much they've played god. Whereas with your (admittedly cool) shark concept, they have no point of reference for what is the "norm"

Also, the mouth guard would make redubbing a faneditors dream.

Author
Time

hey guys you should cheack some of the ideas lucas had for the prequels before he made them and see whether there is a way to implement them in whatever fan edits come

http://starwarz.com/starkiller/illustrated.htm

reading this now kind of frustrates me.  why didn't he look back on these original ideas rather than writing up something else

Author

I would like to see some of that shit he was writing in 1994. It was probably really crappy, but of course, it was when George was still the biggest name.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

OK, so I'm still thinking about AOTC and here's my question:

What do the seperatists want?!! Dooku says: "The republic will agree to any demands we make." Are they just gonna sit around and come up with random demands?  "I demand that...um...Palpatine...should...dance a jig on top of the Senate building...holding...a...duck!"

That was my attempt at some humor. I'm sorry.

But seriously, I'm trying to make Dooku a rogue Jedi here and I need to be able to explain his (and the seperatists) motivations. Maybe we could add a line or two by Nute in the meeting Obi-wan overhears...we've already talked about redubbing him anyway.

Thoughts?

I think I brought up some ideas for this earlier in the thread.

It would have to be addressed in Episode 1, though. Basically the retitled "Galactic Federation" (replacing anything to do with trade or taxation) separatist army seeks to dominate the galaxy just as the Empire seeks to do in the original. Why? Well, why does the Empire seek to dominate the galaxy? Exactly - it's not important. They're the badguys and they want to rule the galaxy. If it was good enough for the original trilogy, it's certainly good enough for the prequels.

Oh, and by the time TPM opens the opening crawl would reveal that the Republic is already in conflict with them - but that things have only gotten worse now that they've invaded Naboo Alderaan. If Dooku is a rogue Jedi, it could simply be that he believes a galaxy under the control of the Galactic Federation would ultimately suffer less than a galaxy under the control of the Sith - which is convenient, because he seems pretty sincere in his appeal for Obi-Wan to join him. Perhaps Dooku made a deal with the devil and simply joined this coalition of warlords, hoping to limit their tyranny whilst also fighting the Sith?

I did suggest earlier that Separatists initially didn't want to be separate but were conned into shady actions which led to them becoming ostracised as rogue states.

So they had a choice of either sitting on the naughty step inside the Republic or leaving.

They may start out by demanding that their stories of a conspiracy be heard to let them back into the Republic on the same footing they used to enjoy and built the droid army merely for defense (which nobody believes now because of their track record).

After that they may just demand to be left alone but with a large army and the means to move it around the galaxy they are (with some cause) seen as too much of a potential threat by the Republic.

^This.

I'm all for making the Neimodians more like victims who were simply exploited in the first film, and in Episode 2 are part of the good fight. Though the republic don't believe them due to their track record.

Author
Time

Thanks for the ideas guys.   ...hmmm...

Well, I can see both TheoOdo and Bingowings ideas working.

TheoOdo, I remember a while back when you posted that idea along with the opening scene from TPM with new lines for the Neimodians. I still love this and I might even get around to trying a version of it some day. It set up the Jedi really really well.

Bingowings, I could get behind this idea too. We would just need to figure out new/altered dialouge for Dooku and Friends.

Well...I'll sit on it for a while...  ;)

One of the reasons I've brought these series of subjects up is that I recently realized that there is a great opportunity in AOTC to add some compassion and more clarity on the role of the Jedi. Once the Jedi are surrounded in the arena the dialogue exchange between Dooku and Windu could be reworked if, once again, Windu is redubbed.

It could go something like:

-Jedi are surrounded

-Dooku stops the droids

Mace: Dooku! I know we haven't seen eye to eye in the past. However, you know we only want peace and justice in this situation! The senate is preparing an army even as we speak. Can't we work out a solution?

Dooku: I'm sorry old friend.

-Before anyone can act, republic ships fly down and start shooting

So I don't know...something like that....thoughts?
