I want to start a Movie Set Museum

I sort of had this waking dream while looking at my "365 Days - Creating the Worlds of Star Wars" book on my desk.  Looking at the MilFal Cockpit  on page 64 reminded me of being a kid and sitting in a 747 (or something) cockpit at the children's museum.  That was kind of cool, but how cool would it be to sit in the cockpit of the gol' derned Millennium Falcon???  And I want to have my picture taken looking out the window of a Star Destroyer, and I want my picture taken being lowered into the carbonite chamber, and hanging off of the antenna under cloud city, etc...

At first I thought I wanted to start a Star Wars museum... but then I remembered all of the other scenes I wanted my picture taken in...  A couple years back I went to the "Fox Studios Baja" park, which is where they've stashed a lot of sets from Titanic, X-Men and a few others.  THAT was actually pretty cool.  They have a "submarine" set where you can dress up in Navy uniforms, they put fake blood and bruises on you, and then they shoot a scene with you too.

Seriously, we should be doing this with all old movie sets for at least a little while before burning them.  I know Peter Jackson has the Shire in storage... maybe I should give him a call.

I agree. I have also said many a times, Star Wars could have an amusement park. As much into making money as they are I am shocked they don't already have one. Star Tours doesn't count.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

If it had the Falcon's cockpit and a Dagobah playland outside, I'd go!

actually the traveling  Stars Wars exhibit that was at the Franklin Institute a couple of years ago, did have a Falcon cockpit.  It was pretty neat.

That would be so cool. Star Trek bridges, Titanic decks, Prequel bluescreens...

;-)

No, seriously, I'd love to walk around on sets, even if they were re-creation. That's one of the reasons I'm bummed the Star Trek Experience was closed before I had a chance to go to Vegas.

So... what was this bluescreen used for?

sure, Star Trek bridges  and Titanic decks would cool,  but Prequel bluescreens?   I don't think so.

But surely they had different bluescreens for different sets?

TOURGUIDE: Over here you can see the bluescreen used to shoot all of the senate scenes...
GROOP: Oooohhhhh....
TG: And here you can see the Mustafar 'red screen'.
GROOP: Ahhhhhh...
TG: And, best of all, the Naboobian green screen!
GROOP: <sound of heads asploding>

Well, since I'm known to be case sensitive, let me rephrase.
