 I agree, as I always thought Lucas worried that the OOT would be like King Kong 1933 version to younger fans.  Even though King Kong 1933 is a classic, many young kids would never watch it because of the movie being in black and white, and the effects feel out of date too.

Ironically, Star Wars OOT effects hold up really well 30 years later, and I think if new generation would have grown up on it, they would have loved it just as much.  Just look at fans who grew up in the late 80's/early 90's who didn't see the OOT in the theaters, they never complained about the effects?  The only time people complained about the effects is when Lucas starting changing the movies and the whole context of the movies changed, and you have TFN wackos yearning for more changes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas starts digitally replacing Luke, Han and Lea with new actors too. I wouldn't put it past him!

I love when we get those EPK videos in tastefully decorated Ranch rooms where Lucas/Mccallum go on about the artistic integrity of upgrading the effects, as if it's not just a Coke Zero gimmick. 1997 Jabba was THE poster boy for how awesome the modern technology was going to make this new version in all the hype for the special edition. They were so proud of that thing...and a few years later it has to be replaced like a defective muffler.

Not doing what fans want is one thing (this can be debated).

Another thing is to release shitty quality product like the GOUT (this can not be debated: it's called making easy money on the old fans back, playing with their nostalgia, aka "fuck you!").

I did not buy the GOUT even if it's the "real" trilogy that we all liked.

What I want to say is that if there is no OOT on this boxset, too bad of course I'd like it, but as far as the quality of what is presented is great, it's fine with me. People will know what they will buy (or not), no bad surprises. I'm cool with that.

What I think Lucas will do is selling this boxset without the OOT. Thinking that he could make another OOT boxset later on if he wants. Making us buying the SE OT in Blu Ray THEN the OOT later on.

Like the interviews said: it is not the "ultimate" boxset.

That is the key.. NOT THE ULTIMATE.. So we shouldn't be expecting anything more than his latest revision-festival. This set will still sell more than any other Blu Ray just because it is the Star Wars movies. I think Lucas is hoping people will forget that the OOT ever existed.  Lucas wants everybody to think that the 1997 versions were the originals. It will be nice when he finally decides he is done and the words FINAL CUT appear on the front of the box. An Ultimate set would ideally feature all cuts of the movie including the OOT just like Blade Runner.

Why did SW deserve this?

No matter what we do, Lucas will always be stacked against us. He has more money, more yesmen, more sympathy in the media than we do. It's checkmate, so let's stop huffing the gasoline.

He has comitted The greatest atrocity in film history. This is so grevious a crime that I feel that the whole medium of film should be destroyed if it should come to pass that SW, ESB, and ROTJ are allowed to be remorselessly destroyed by it's own creator.

Makes me cynical about life.

PS I know this is hyperbolic

Hopefully the release will be a positive one. However unlikely.

 Because he is the creator and owns the rights to the movies, so sadly he can do what he wants.  Essentially he has a monopoly on the fanbase.

But still, no director has treated his films as atrociously as Lucas.

Baron, did James Cameron really say that?  Wow, usually directors are a fraternity and they never speak out against another ones work. 

I think we all know that EVERY director feels that way off the record, but that is pretty damning on Lucas that someone actually says it on the record.
