I'm still puttering on my Episode One ("Untitled") and Episode Two ("The Princess of Ondos") scripts on a big yellow legal pad I keep in the car. I'll share more when it's done, but on the top of the pad I wrote four rules. I thought I'd share them, for conversation's sake.
1. No Moral Ambiguity.
- The way I see it, in the OT Good=Good, Bad=Bad. The Jedi are good. The Republic is Good (if ineffectutal). The Emperor is bad, even if people don't see it at first. Anakin is good but goes bad, and not for any justifiable reason.
2. Politics are simple and in the background.
- As much as possible the fall of the Republic is shown as events that HAPPEN, not events people talk about. In my current outline the Senate is only ever seen once.
3. Action =/= violence
- For every seen of two characters trying to murder eachother, there should be a chase, or jumping out of a plane, or crashing a spaceship, or scrambling up the side of a waterfall, or something. I think the PT had way too many lightsaber fights, and not enough swinging across gorges.
4. More locations
- In the OT they hardly ever return to any location. I try and follow that model.
These are my thoughts at the moment.
