I've been working on it man. God knows, I've been working on it.

Anyway, that's it from me. This is A-Man's thread. So we need to get back on topic.

Well said. Oh hey! What's this? A new page! What better time to leave the bullshit behind!

sshhhhhhh.

Yes, I'm sure people "can't take" your razor sharp wit which is only further augmented by your eloquent grasp of the English language in your retaliation to a, clearly unprovoked, attack.

Boy, I wonder what A-Man is going to think of all this.

It's kinda funny and aggravating at the same time. I've been a mod before, and I've got to say Moth3r reaction took me by surprise. I don't care who started what and who said what about whose cocks, but lets just all agree that we all have cocks enough to keep us satisfied without having to get mad at one another. (Either your own, or someone else's, take your pick)

rather him hold it in, like a fart or it will stink, and i do smell something from his comment.

Who are you?

I have been around for a long time, and when I give advice such as that in Post 669 I'm not making stupid comments - I'm totally serious.

Although it's a shame when a project is marred by "technical issues", I predicted that something like this would happen, and if it was predictable, it could have been avoided.

Both Ady and I have tried to help Asteroid-Man by requesting sample clips to help work out what these "technical issues" are, which he has so far not bothered to provide.

I'm not saying I've never screwed up myself - but at least I can admit to my own failings and not blame it on shoddy Canadian DVDs (which, FYI, are likely to be identical to the US releases just with the addition of some French text on the DVD cover).

And if Asteroid-Man find these comments hurtful, he needs to grow a pair and toughen up if he wants to be taken seriously.

adywan said:

A-Man, you're not re-encoding the DVD's again to post the clip i asked for are you? I need the original that you worked with so i can see what codec was used and if there is any problem with the video which would stop Vegas accepting it. It should have only taken a couple of minutes to rip a very small section out of one of them and posted it. If you can't give me a sample of the original file then there is no way i'm going to be able to help you out

I've been dealing with school stuff, sorry I haven't had time. I'll try my best tonight, and Moth3r I admitted I fucked up somewhere between the ripping and the converting. It's 25fps (I think I fucked up during the rip or something) and so when I rendered it, I got a weird lag issue. When I ripped the deleted scenes, it was done correctly, so this problem did not occur.

And for the record Moth3r, I can see how you'd expect these technical errors (this is like the 30th one now anyways, haha) it's my first edit and I'm dealing with a lot of source material.

I can upload the AVI as soon as I can find the time to do it (I've seriously been doing stuff non-stop and just found a few minutes to get back here and give you an update).

The issue I have now is that Sony Vegas for whatever reason will not open AVIs. They are the same files I used on the old computer, and they play in media player they just won't play in Vegas. It might have to do with me using Windows 7, I'm not too sure.

I've been really busy lately with school, so you guys have to bare with me (it's the weekend, so I should be able to do it tonight or tomorrow)

To all the other posters reading this thread, if this issue does NOT get solved, I'll handle it - it'll just take a bit of time. Again, I really appreciate your help ady, but if we can't solve this problem, it seems like the best solution would be for me to just replace the project files with WMVs and for me to re-rip AOTC.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, but I was dealing with a lot of transcript/deadline bullshit for my program as of September (still cleaning up after the events from February in the hospital).

So I can't even open the files in VD. Here's what I get:

XVID? Theres your problem right there. Vegas doesn't like XVID for some reason.  There is some workarounds to get Vegas to accept it and some programs/codecs installed can cause Vegas to accept it so it looks like you had something installed on your system previously that allowed Vegas to accept it. I've never been able to get Veags to import XVID or DIVX.

But i've got to ask, why did you use such a lossy codec as XVID to rip your DVD's and work with for your project? I don't care what anyone says about XVIDs being as good quality as DVDs because that is just not true. And it has nothing to do with not knowing how to encode an xvid either. You want to work with a lossless codec like lagarith or you will suffer compression issues when converting to DVD, especially with such a long movie. You could also just have ripped the DVD's without encoding and imported the VOB file (with no file splitting or audio track) into Vegas and that would remove the 2:3 pulldown.

Here's a workaround to your project issues you mentioned and it will give you much better final results. Re-rip the DVD's to 23.976 (2:3 pulldown removal) using a lossless codec. Save them in a new folder. Now once this is done open up your project in Vegas. ignore the missing files warning and search box that will appear if you have deleted any of your original files. Go to the "project media" tab and right click on your first movie file and select "replace" and replace it with the new rip for that movie, then do the same with each other file. Now you may have a small problem with your AOTC footage being a few frames out due to the framerate issues. But this will save you a lot of work. But make sure you have plenty of hard drive space.

Don't use Vegas's Mpeg encoder to encode such a long movie because its pretty crap with low bitrates. Use procoder as this produces amazing results for low bitrates. You would be able to use the DVD-5 Mpeg2 settings i created for procoder that i used for the DVD-5 of Revisited which would let you squeeze up to about 4 hours onto a DVD-9 with very good results.

Haha ok. I'll do that ASAP. Too bad I can't just force Vegas to accept XVID

Google "koepi xvid" and you should be able to find the codec you need.  Or install ffdshow with all codecs and VFW enabled.

AM,
I think you are missing the point, DON'T use xvid, use a lossless codec like Lagarith or Huffyuv.

Wtf? :S Yeah thanks.... I said I got it. Haha, I'm just curious what I'm missing now that I had before to make it work. Obviously when I re-rip I'll be going lossless.

WTF?

The reason I said that is because you said this, "Too bad I can't just force Vegas to accept XVID" and Molly responded about the xvid codec, so it seemed like you still wanted to pursue this avenue when clearly it is NOT the right way.

I was NOT bashing you, just pretty much agreeing to Ady's comment is all.

Author

Haha yeah I got that, I just thought me saying "I'll do that ASAP." and "Too bad I can't just force..." would send the message that I wasn't going the Xvid route. Just clearing that up. My bad.

No idea why I thought re-ripping SW, TPM and ROTS was a good idea haha. I just converted those, I'm just gonna test and see if those work first.

EDIT: WOOHOO!!! I converted one shot first and it replaced the other file perfectly! Now to just convert the others.

so AMan any way i can get a rough copy of your edit?

Author

So all the AVIs were replaced, but remember how I said the first AOTC rip ripped the entire menu with the video? When I re-routed the files to the re-rip, it took random parts of the movie. So in the next little while I'll be going through and re-inserting every AOTC piece of footage.

RCB - At this point, I'd rather just finish the edit and then send it out.

I've had to put aside replacing the AOTC scenes for the past few days due to wedding preparations for my sister's wedding, as well as a lot of assignments. If a free day happens to come up, you know how I'll be spending it. ;)
