I have to admit, I still don't understand why in Empire the rebels run toward the felled walker just as a snowspeeder buzzes it and blows it up.

Can anyone explain what is going on and solve my adult misconception?!

Can anyone put me out of my 30 year misery of possible misinterpretation?!
