1) Possibly. I just thought it would be significant if one island kept all the evil at bay and the other island was the counterpart to the first. Like EIG and Jacob.

2) "Dogma"? I didn't see it that way. I don't think he'd undo all of existence - just that of the Losties. What would happen to the rest of the world still isn't clear to me, but I guess EIG would rule it and it would suck.

3) Alternative universe parallel. Echoes the idea that you can't correct the course of time - things happen at different times in different universes but things that were supposed to happen happen.

4) No comment

5) Seems to be nothing more than a plot point - blow to the head caused the aphasia (sp?), can't speak english, going to make things difficult in the final episodes.

Haven't watched the episode yet, but maybe the other Island keeps the Island bottled up?  Like a backup cork?

Or its just one Island with some more shallow water between them.

Probably B.

This week's episode gave me some fodder for my undying Widmore is the Secret Founder of DHARMA theory:

1. He used Pylons just like DHARMA did to keep smokey out.  The other-others use Ash.

2. He had access to surveys that DHARMA (Jin) conducted in the 70s.

Back to the Ash/Pylons thing... it fits in with my idea that there's often conflicts between Science and Faith on Jacob's team.  When Ben assumed command of the Others, he represented "Faith."  "Faith that the island would fulfill its role."  Widmore, presumably, represented "Science."  I still think that Ben cast him off the island when he found out that Widmore had secretly brought DHARMA to the island.  He brought them to the island to study it, so that they could "cause" the island to fulfill its role.  So they could understand and then recreate the phenomena of the island in case it ever "went on the blink."

And the function of the island?  More and more it seems that it is to contain the smoke monster?

Also, consider The Book of Revelations in the Bible, chapter 20: 1-3 http://www.awitness.org/biblehtm/re/re20.htm

20:1  I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

20:2  He seized the dragon, the old serpent, which is the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole inhabited earth, and bound him for a thousand years,

20:3  and cast him into the abyss, and shut it, and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more, until the thousand years were finished. After this, he must be freed for a short time.

It's possible that the island is the prison of that old serpent, the devil.  And that he is either preparing to be loosed for a season, or he is going to be bound again- to repeat the cycle in another 1000 years.

If “dead is dead”, then perhaps “undead is undead?”  Could this lead us into the fabled 7th Zombie Season?

Last night's episode hinted at awesome just enough to be frustrating. The letdown is happening sooner than i expected.

I think we're back in business, baby. "Ab Aeterno", and now this? I keep getting more and more pumped for this season as we keep going (with a few hitches along the way, of course -- but overall, and especially with the recent slew of amazingness, I'm loving it).

P.S. I'm bummed that I wasn't able to respond to this thread from my iPad. Forum formatters, why do you spite me?! . . . :-(

What didn't you like about the episode, VFP?  I felt like we were finally cresting the top of the rollercoaster and we were going to see things start happening in the altStuff.  It's like when Jack decided last year to set off the bomb... they had a vector and were actually going to try to do something!  It's kind of exciting, no?

*SPOILERS*

So... why do you think Desmond ran Locke down?  My first guess was that he wanted to give him a life/death experience that, like Charlie, would cause him to see/remember the other timeline.  Me?  I'd rather make-out with Libby at the beach... but whatever.

My workmate thinks that Desmond, somehow, is bringing them all to the Hospital.  Jack is there, Jin/Sun are on their way there, maybe Charlie is still there, Claire, perhaps Sawyer is taking Kate there.  It sort of makes sense.

Getting them all the to hospital?  I don't think so.  Its definitely the near death experience, though I'm not sure Locke will like what he sees.  The rest of the people had true love on the Island.  Unless Locke's true love is the Island.  He's in a unique position because he's dead in the normal universe.  Wait, Charlie is dead, and he doesn't seem to mind the glimpses into the normal universe.

My question(s) upon thinking is this: Was Charlie a candidate?  Do only candidates get glimpses into their other life, or if we hit Ben in the head hard enough will he see Alex as his daughter?

#195.  Crossed off.

--EDIT--

Also, "LINUS" is #117, also crossed off.  For what it's worth.

117?  Same as MASTER CHIEF???  Awesome!

Also this- the way the whispers were revealed was terrible.  The explanation is one thing... but the way the show stopped long enough for Hurley to tell the audience the answer... man that was terrible!  Might as well as had the orangutan in an ascot tell us the answer!

In absense of a new episode last night, I started writing my Pilot Episode to submit to ABC for a Lost spinoff show entitled:

<spoiler space>

Vincent Alpo: Agent of DHARMA.  It's animated Saturday morning show basically about the dog who doesn't age (Vincent Alpo) and his undercover life as an Agent of DHARMA.  He goes to the island to accomplish hidden DHARMA objectives, and runs into his old colleague EZRA JAMES SHARKINGTON.  Ezra and Vincent used to both be Agents of DHARMA, but DHARMA tried to burn Ezra and he turned his back on the agency and everything it stood for.  Now he tries to foil their plans and turn Vincent to his side to fight against DHARMA.

Hopefully airing this fall on ABC.

For me, this season has been a real dud. The story is not exciting, and it's just so mundane now.

This last episode wasn't terrible. They still haven't justified the flash-sideways to me though.

The building mystery of "why they were all on the same plane" would be interesting if we didn't learn the answer to that question 5.5 years ago.

Though I would like to know what's in the box that Christian left for Claire.

It was also nice to see MIB's charade with the Losties finally come to a close.  That's been a long time in coming.

AND THE KWON's ARE DEAD... aren't they?

And why didn't MIB melt in the water?  I thought he was the wicked witch of the west or something.

MIB can travel across water, he just can't get out of the time vortex or something. If that's even true. They did actually get me with the whole "he has to leave with the candidates" thing being a trap. I actually yelled "ITS A TRAP!" just as Jack was realizing it. Clever, clever.

maybe he can't swim long distances or fly across in Smoke Form.

I liked Jack's "I'm with him" referring to the Smoke Monster.

So, what did everyone think of last night's episode?

I'm sort of in denial.  I can't form any sentences to express my disappointment...  my jaw just sort of hangs at an odd angle.

*SPOILERS*

I didn't think we'd see the frozen donkey wheel again, but I did expect to learn more about the Egyptian/Incan/whatever influences on the island.  Also, the glowing yellow light... can't say that made any sense...

Last night's episode was a clear indication that the LOST staff is marking time until the finale. Very little was explained that we didn't know, or couldn't have easily deduced. Or never cared much about in the first place.

I was pretty disappointed with last weeks episode - it was evident then that they were filling in tome and moving everyone into position. we've been keep in the dark in regards to a lot of characters of late.

At least the last episode was a bit of fun to go along with that.

I think this week's episode just muddied the water for me. It's like it answered questions, but really just changed pretty much everything I assumed about the Island. Jacob/Smokey aren't quasi-physical manifestations of good/evil, they are babies brought to the Island thousands(?!) of years ago who are granted magical powers of immortality and the inability to kill one another by someone who was also immortal but didn't make it so her own Evil Son couldn't kill her.

Why is Smokey evil? Because he wants to leave? How does him wanting to leave require so much work to contain (ie Candidates, Islands, so forth)? Why does Jacob need Candidates to replace him; when his Mother wanted a replacement, she kidnapped a baby (or two)?

I still trust the writers to end it well, but even after another episode that is almost solid backstory, it just threw me farther off.

My DVR didn't record the end, but did they really show a clip from the first season to show that Adam and Eve were Mother and Smokey? 6 years of making us try to get references to past episodes and they flat out spell it out for people who don't remember the bodies in the cave, one of the first dozen mysteries? Of all the things they figured we'd forget...
