Signature update problem

Author
Time
If you try to update your signature with the plain text editor it shows it in plain text but you can't even save your current sig as something goes wrong in the conversion and it says you're way over your character limit. Looks like it tries to do everything your HTML you set in the box twice and explodes. I'm no expert on HTML though.

Which is apparently more than the allotted 1000 characters.

I need to adjust the filters so that HTML is properly converted to tags, which is why you're seeing all that code.

The editor is doing what it's supposed to though. All that HTML looks correct. I'll bump the signature size limit to accommodate the extra code that the editor generates. Can't do it until I get home though because it involves a change in the database.

Bumped signature sizes to 3000 characters. Let me know if you have any other problems.

Tried the same thing and while it let me update it, it showed up as:

A New Hope: Revisited <a href="http://wp.me/Pr3Gu-5q">Change List</a> (make sure I didn't miss anything!)
A New Hope: Revisited Visual Comparison (<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/doubleofive/ANHRVisualComparisonPart1">Part 1</a>) (<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/doubleofive/ANHRVisualComparisonPart2">Part 2</a>)
Empire: Revisited Final Trailer <a href="

which not only didn't show up correctly, but cut off half of them.  I'm going to the WYSIWYG editor to see if I can fix it from there.

Still working on this, but I think I have it nailed. I'll be posting a bunch of minor fixes and tweaks this weekend at some point, so it'll go up then.

Also, I'm adding some logic to the processing so that HTML created by forum tags or the editor isn't counted toward your signature character limit. Since a lot of HTML can be necessary for a few simple things, but that source code isn't visible to end users, I don't think it makes sense that the source code be included in the character count.

Alright, this is related, so I'll throw it here. I've been trying to use the plain text editor all the time, but it doesn't seem to work properly. If I type the following in the plain text editor (which I'm using now), it shows up like this:

Sounds good DuTwan! Hopefully the lips and timing would match. Wish we could get <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitleijqobqvle9an?from=Main.BRIANBLESSED">BRIAN BLESSED</a> to redo the voice. ;-)

However if I paste the same thing into the WYSIWYG editor, it resolves itself and shows up like this:

Sounds good DuTwan!  Hopefully the lips and timing would match.  Wish we could get BRIAN BLESSED to redo the voice. ;-)

Are you entering HTML into the plain text editor? I'm a bit confused as to what you're doing.

The different editors confuse me, but aren't you supposed to do this (from the help page):

url=http://fanedits.com/]FanEdits.com[/url] — FanEdits.com

actually you start with [url=.... but when I typed that, it showed up as a link like it is supposed to LOL.

Yes, Jay that's what I'm doing because when I edit or quote a post in plain text that has a link, it parses it down to the html for the link, then if I post it it appears broken.  I haven't tried using the [ url= yet, thanks Frink.

This is a plain "Reply with Quote" using the plain text editor. It brings it back down the html instead of the [ url=

I knew trying to integrate a plain text editor with a WYSIWYG editor simultaneously was going to be a nightmare :)

I'm going to look at this over the weekend, but you'll have to use the post editor for now. There are sophisticated regular expressions that parse through everything you submit to create the resulting post. Obviously, the expressions that handle plain text editing are broken.

Also, you can't submit HTML into the form whether you're using plain text or the post editor. All HTML is filtered so it doesn't render. If you're editing a post and the plain text editor doesn't convert the stored HTML into forum tags, submitting the HTML will make a mess of things.

I tried to update my sig, and it messed up the last link in the sig.  The link works fine, but it only displays the first few characters in the sig ("This Thread is Currently About..." becomes "This Thre").  I noticed that Ric Olie has the same problem.

I've tried many different copy/paste/retype methods and nothing seems to be working.

Thanks.

Well, I tried about six different things this morning, and starting from scratch fixed it (although I swear I tried that last night and it didn't work).

Beats me.
