I saw Cloverfeld a while a go. It was intense! It made me want to calm down with a couple cookies! Ha ha.

I just don't get what people see in that movie. I have heard several Bond fans proclaim OHMSS to be their absolute favorite. I thought it was beyond awful. Simply can't stand it. But I also can't stand AVTAK or ALTK either.
The thing is that the film comes closest to a Fleming novel, and is made by the classic team. GL may not be everyone's favorite Bond, but he does a very credible job at pulling off the most demanding 007 performance. My big like for the film comes from it's decision to stay close to the book, Barry's best score, the fact that Peter Hunt was finally allowed to direct, the return to more Earth-bound stories, the opening, the ending, oh damn I just love the film. I can't really play favorites though. If I had to choose one it would be LALD (yes I know that completely goes against my above arguments-OHMSS is in my top 5 though.)
They Drive By Night-really enjoyable and unexpected. It's as if two or three films were combined, and for once in a movie before stardom Bogart doesn't get the axe halfway through!!

I was not allowed to watch OHMSS by my "friends" and "family" in much the same way Ghostbusters II was censored from my cinematic life.
I finally broken down, held up a movie theatre and made them play them back-to-back. I loved them both.
I actually like Lazenby, and I can give one simple reason: He comes off as English. I know he isn't (at least, not recently)... but Connery rocks the Scotsman, Moore is as American as apple pie... Dalton was okay, but a little greasy...
I also like that Bond seems truly in love with Contessa and not just sleeping around for the "awesomeness" of it. Very much Casino Royale (no cheese) there.
OHMSS for the win. But, as I've declared in my WHY you like what you like thread, I won't try to explain further why I like it or try to convince you that you should.

good night it was? yees hmmmmM!
Was Goats really any good? I thought it looked pretty good from the trailer but it got awful reviews.
My wife and I thought it looked pretty good from the trailers, but it turned out not to be. Complete misinformation campaign, not funny movie. Goes nowhere slow.

Boondocks Saints II. Friend warned me you had to be pretty drunk to appreciate that movie, and unfortunately, we were not.

[REC] knocks spots off the admittedly fun Cloverfield in the shaky cam stakes so if you liked Cloverfield and you haven't seen it I'd recommend you give it a go Cookie Monster.
Thanks Bingowings! I'll definitely check it out.
Have a cookie on me!

I hated it. your mileage may vary.
I hated it too - But the last film i saw was much much worse - Jennifer's Body.
I just can't seem to find anything decent, and the films I AM looking forward to are months away at best :(

Due to EyeShotFirst's... recommendation?... I checked this out and really liked it. Sure, it's in a genre... I've just rewatched all of the Aliens films again (as stated previously) and it sure feels like it's of a kind... but it was better than Alien 3 or 4...
Blind Side
Yeah, this is a great film! Makes grown men cry! And I don't care for football spectating... but sometimes it makes a good movie!

I generally dislike Disney cartoons, because I find their messages to be quite troubling. In fact, my pals make fun of me as "The Man Who Killed Walt Disney." I find overwhelming fault in most of them, and am not shy about complaining about them.
Just watched "Princess and the Frog" and actually found it to be rather enjoyable. The music was really good, and I found it refreshing to see a Disney film acknowledge something as real as social class distinctions in a fairly real way (for a children's film).
High quality 2D animation and perhaps Disney's best story in decades.

As long as The Incredibles doesn't give you bad memories, you should be ok.

Heck no. Pixar's films are generally excellent, with (IMHO of course) well developed and emotionally mature themes. Huge kudos to those (except Cars)
Ok then. I'm sure you can get a signed apology letter from Jason Lee should it become an issue.
Poltergeist, a long time since I saw this and sure it's showing it's age but it is full of really bizarre Doctor Who style moments.
I can imagine a really horrifying reworking of the concepts in this film.
Poltergeist phenomena (usually destructive behavior by teen-aged girls who blame it on spooks to see if their stupid parents are actually paying attention to them) tends to happen in dis-functional families and centre on older children than 5yrs old.
Dominique Dunne's character would have been a better source for what was happening than a bit of shady real estate dealing and getting Carol Anne back seems a bit too convenient a happy ending.
Imagine instead a dis-functional Freeling family.
Steven spends so much of his time working on selling more homes to move up the property ladder that he has little time for his family.
Dianne sinks all of her time into domestic drudgery in between pot smoking binges and has hatched out two later in life children to make up for her lack of community ties.
Dana who can remember being the only child, resents her brother and sister and has become anorexic (shifting the decaying food gag onto her).
Robbie and Carol Anne pretty much live in a fantasy world of dolls and action figures and barely leave their room fearful of the forces of nature and isolated from their parents and having less and less in common with their sister who is entering reckless adulthood.
In a terrible storm Robbie is caught in a tree brought down through his window (confirming his distrust of nature and the outside world) and Carol Anne goes missing.
Dana claims to hear Carol Anne through the television set and soon everybody does but rather than go to the police they turn to quack parapsychologists who play along with the delusion.
They bring in a truly bizarre self-proclaimed medium into the mix and soon the line between hysteria and the supernatural become blurred.
Has Dianne been witnessing poltergeist phenomena or just smoking too much pot?
Has Carol Anne really been pulled into another dimension or is she dead in the swimming pool pit Steven's feuding next door neighbor has been digging? If so did she fall or was she buried?
Did Dana really hear the voice or was she just faking it for attention?
Is the Freeling house built on an unmoved graveyard or do the bodies bursting out of the ground come from somewhere else?
Why hasn't anyone gone to the police?
With so many remakes and re-imaginings going on it's possibly inevitable someone will do it with this film but the original told that version of the story reasonably perfectly so why not turn it into a really dark horror film?
Think more Guillermo Del Toro than the golden age of Steven Spielberg.
As long as it doesn't have those creepy singing kids at the end of the film... I'm game. That's the only part that freaks me out... and it shakes me to my bones.

This time it will have fifteen times the creepy kids choir and in 5D sound.
Bingowings that Rec movie was great! Do you have any other sugestions for the same kind of movie?
IRON MAN 2.
It's hard to say so soon after watching whether the movie is great but it certainly is fun.
There's pretty much more of everything from the first along with the new stuff.
and if you do go to see it, be sure to stick around after the end credits.
I'm jealous Johnny. For reals.

It's just a movie, guy. See it when you can and judge for yourself :)
A Perfect Getaway - the movie grinds to a halt towards the end so they can reveal the 'twist' in the story but otherwise i enjoyed it. Good performances.

If you take on board my earlier comments about [REC]2 and should you wish to watch the American remake Quarantine (which is rather good and has a few sequences which could be added to [REC] and may even improve it a tad, though the original is the better film).
In terms of fast paced, action hinged psychological horror films the UK original cut of The Descent (avoid the US cut like the plague) is a cracker.
Ils is also a really creepy film (if you can avoid spoilers as much as possible).
Same with Haute Tension (a controversial film but it's best to enter that debate after seeing it rather than before).
In terms of monster siege movies 30 Days Of Night is well worth a watch as is The Mist.
Is [Rec]2 out yet?
I second The Mist, btw. I was surprised it was good.
Peeping Tom. Stunning.

[Rec]2 is out and it's ok, really good in places but the comedy is a bit too forced.
Peeping Tom is a classic (even if it did wreck Michael Powell's career).
