Nice one!
I've been thinking two-dimensional overlooking the Z-axis. But so did three ISD-captains pursuing the Falcon in its escape from Hoth. What were our Imperial space strategists thinking in that situation?
Strategy in that case would to be use superior numbers to box in the Falcon since Vader wanted them alive... While the fighter limit the Falcon's escape avenues, Star Destroyers move in to lock on with tractor beams to attempt to take the ship. In doing this however the Falcon's superior maneuverability index caused what is now referred to in Imperial Academy text holos as "The Incident at Anoat" in which two Star Destroyers collided into each other. XD
I would have use ion cannons in conjunction with turbolasers but that's me... However, since the Falcon was seconds away from the asteroid field I imagine (making excuses for...) that disabling engines as a ship enters an asteroid field would not be condusive for taking a ship alive as it would probably get smashed to bits by stray rocks.
