Watched 'Planet Hulk' yesterday.  The first half was good and I thought surprisingly faithful to the books, but I was underwhelmed by the second half.

I hate to be cliche, but the Book was Better.

Planet Hulk the GN (Graphic Novel) is by Greg Pak, and I'm not aware of a BN (Boring Novel) adaptation.

Print is dead!  Unless it's fully illustrated.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

It had some good moments, but most of it seemed like a Copy and Paste.

Several things were rip offs. It stole several pages from Alien, and Titan A.E.

In the end, if you like spaceships and great visuals, this film will make your pants tight. I did like the fact that many of them were not what you would call "Badasses"

In the end, Technicians navigating there way through a monster infested spaceship was already done and it was done very well in 79.

The monsters even seemed to act like the ones in Alien. They even did some things that would be censored in any other movie. I am gonna flat out say, that it was the first orgy in space. Then somewhere near the end of the film you can't help but say "What?"

Daybreakers

Yeah, I watched it. I will say that the concept was purely original, and it even showed some great potential. Then it said screw our great idea, and it turned into another monster movie. There were so many opportunities to make a masterpiece, but no. They ignored them.

I never expect any good out of a vampire movie, but this one shined bright in concept. It was as if Stanley Kubrick had started working on a film, and then somewhere in the middle, George Lucas took over and took a shit on the story.

The cover art sort of disgusts me.  After your review, I may have to pay more attention to it.  Or do I?

That is "rush to script-itis" I think.  You come up with one great idea and then pad it to feature length with plastic cliches from the cliche drawer.  These writers need to calm down and collect a few more original ideas before they start (or finish!) writing.

Well Titan A.E. ripped off of star wars, lensman, flash gordon and god knows what else.  Not too original.

Oh yeah totally forgot When worlds collide.

I too like Kane.  Too bad the lowry DVD is an abomination, they scrubbed all the grain away.

Hopefully when they redo it for blu ray they will also put out a new dvd version.

loved the visuals, story wasn't to bad even if the main villain was only 1 dimensional.

So it's only okay when Star Wars does it?

Just watched Cargo and liked it quite a bit.

The story went downhill a little bit somewhere in the middle but the visuals were impressive which kept me immersed in the film.

[REC] 2 not as good as the first film it has to be said but the first one was such a surprise it would have been hard to top it.

The humour often breaks the mood in a bad way but still it has some nice moments.

A good fan editor could take bits from both films and a few of the unique scenes in Quarantine and make an interesting alternate cut.

Alien and Aliens with the wife.  This might be an awkward time to admit this, but I have this software where I can "quickly" edit out the swears and the gore so my wife can stand to watch with me.  So she'd never seen either of them before... she still thought Alien was gross.  I think she liked Aliens the same way girls like any horror movie: it pushed her buttons and made her jump and scream.  It doesn't look like too much fun from the outside... but I'm sure it's what passes for fun.

The scene that scared her the most was in Aliens when the pair of facehuggers come after Ripley and Newt.

It really made me pine for old school Jim Cameron.  Just like old school Lucas and Spielbergo.

Moon.

Eh, it was alright.  Could see most of it coming.

My wife kept saying "This is like 2001", which is a terrible thing to say in our house, so I don't think she enjoyed it either.
