Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there like several dozens of those shafts at various levels in the big Cloud City Chute? There are like six per panel and Luke happens to get sucked into the middle right chute. I would find it highly unlikely that the hand would go down the exact same chute due to the difference in mass, size and weight.
