In the last week I've bumped into three people I knew in high school (Class of 98).
These were friendly acquaintances, the sort of people you smile at, pleasantly exchange a handful of biographical info (you married who? you had a kid? you moved away and are now back?), say farewell and mention to your pals "I bumped into such-and-such yesterday."
"Facebook" has ruined these meetings.
I don't use Facebook much. I have an account I check maybe monthly, with two pictures of me. My wife does it a bit moree, with a picture of our baby as her picture.
Now, I bump into these people, and via Facebook they already know the simple biographical info we might exchange (and I assume they think I know theirs). Consequently we have nothing to say. If I had anything of more depth I wanted to tell them we'd be actual friends.
