Angel, you actually proved my point with that podcar comparison shot. The illusion of the podcar becoming darker as it passes the sun is due to the light bleed surrounding the object fully. As you can clearly see the podcar is in fact the same brightness but the illusion is created. Now the falcon doesn't pass the sun so the light bleeds all around it so the illusion of it becoming darker wouldn't be there. Don't forget that this is still a work in progress so all the colouring etc is incomplete. But the falcon DOES have a strong orange hue.  It also hasn't had the shadow pass added as it flies behind the cloud and the engine glows from the pod cars is missing also. But they are above the clouds so light is bouncing from all around off the clouds which would light up the underside of the falcon. The falcon has never been as dark as the cloud it passes and darkening it much more looks odd. But the lighting on the original falcon shot as it passes the cloud is wrong as it has the entire light source coming from below, which made the original falcon look darker.

And angel, the AVCHD TIEs were returned to how they looked originally before the red tint added in 2004 as that was a '97 preservation. They are not as they will appear in ESB:R

Anyway, here's a couple fo photos of the things i ahve been working on recently for the Hoth Troopers 2nd unit shoot

1: backpack frames. Unassembled

2: Trooper costume accessories (the rank insignia, glove decal and hat communicator). These are just the clay versions ready for the silicon moulding stage

They look great! My only complaint is how the some of the straight lines came out sort of crooked. But that's better than I could produce anyways!

ADY what can I say, That falcon is awesome, actually the whole shot is awesome. as always I read this thread on a daily basis, I think some people on here complain a bit too much about some shots that you do...

Personally I think they should be grateful for anything you show.

Constructive criticism and complaining are 2 different things.. anyway

Keep up doing awesome shit mate

Love it

I have to agree with SKY. Some people are insatiable and complain a bit too much. Someone talks about real physic, real shadows...and how cares?I mean, this is a fantasy movie not some historical film.

Some says...i don't like it, because in the real word it does not look like...men...morning...time to wake up...what real word??? What are you talking about?

What Ady did, is so incredible, so freaking amazing. It deserve full respect.

Excellent!  That looks pretty spot on... I really like how the light wraps around the Falcon right before it moves past the left-hand cloud.  If this is still not complete, it will be interesting to see how the finished product looks within the complete release...

the new one reminds me of a video game.

Great concept, it has always bothered that building abruptly ends, when it seems there should be more of a tapering around based (Perhaps windows added too, as shown behind Leia inside right before they escape with the falcon). on the other architecture.  I like the rounding of the building, but yes it does look a video-gameish, but I'm guessing you just did it as a concept piece not meaning to be a final shot of course.

While I agree that once in a while there are posts which are unhelpfully negative, these are vanishingly rare.

Most of the comments pushing Ady to maintain his already self set high standard of work, which make suggestions for further enhancement (not all he will agree with some he may come to agree with) come from a position of encouragement.

As for the suggestion that realism is not necessary in a fantastic setting I both agree and disagree.

A fantastic world need not follow the definition of realism with our world but it has to seem realistic within the margins of it's own world.

It needs to be consistent with itself.

Lucas forgot that, Adywan and a number of other editors around remember that all too well and the posts of the majority of the people on here are directed in that spirit.

Do people have to quote the whole of other people's posts every time they comment?  Great though the accessories and the various mockups look, I tire of having to scroll past them just to see basic comments praising them.

It can be a bit of a bind.

It would help if an image really needs to be linked to a quote if the size was reduced to something a little less obtrusive, as SSWR has just done (people can still open the full sized image by doing a right click).

Most of the time the image doesn't actually need reposting at all.

I hope you don't run into any problems getting the props sent to for location shooting.

They look just the sort of thing that :

A) Some over zealous security jobsworth would wreck to make sure it's not hiding something or going to explode.

B) A nice little item to slam a huge customs charge on.

Or are you doing the filming close enough to home to avoid this?

Yeah... although props like this are shipped all the time. Trust me... I know. =D Unless there's like C4 or something else in it I doubt it'd go through such security scrutiny. Hope not anyway, but I do have a friend at costumes here in the Port of Oakland and I know a couple people at SFO security... I'll poke for some information concerning security just in case.

Which brings up your other question, Ady's in England... We're in California, so no, the shoot is rather far from Ady. However, the parrellel is awesome if you look at it: The OG SW was filmed at Elstree Studios in England while blue screen and model shots were done in California! Now it's kinda reversed as Ady's team of wizards are creating the CGI and model elements in England and we're filming in California! XD

I think the concern is the shipping charge and how long it would take to ship after shipping before the winter snow season ends here...

However, I have an idea about snow... if the delay goes longer than expected I actually have come with a rather insane back up plan. But it would be VERY cool and maybe even cheaper than a huge coordinated effort to get to a Hoth-esque location... May the Force be with us all.

The irony is it's still rather thick on the high ground in Scotland.

Even the Trossachs have a nice coating of snow at the moment (don't know how long it will last though).

Great how the building is now rounded to match all the other architecture around Cloud City... =D Much better! Also the narrower path leading to landing platform looks good and I like the walkway is lit. I think the lighting of the building is what's making it a lil videogame esque. I'd say tone down the shade half way between what you have there on the building and the original would sell it. Awesome overall. =D

They'd probably charge customs for that too or declare it a dodgy substance.

We don't want another cold war now do we?

Not actually. If you can see in the shots not all the wall have windows. also the shot when chewie fires the stormies you can clearly see the non window walls :D

I'd say tone down the shade half way between what you have there on the building and the original would sell it.

Well as you saw my reference was the close ups. so the walls had to be so white..

The shadows that may cause this look "videogameish" was an issue really.

In the shot that the falcon lands we have hard shadows from the sun but in the close ups we have soft ones..

Either way the platform matte needs to be redone :D

Its funny because in the background buildings SE and not we dont see other platforms but instead the three platforms we see, are in close ups only(and one SE open up).(millenium falcon, slave 1 and vader's arrival)

I dont know if that building has them all or its like a mini docking bay just for the shake of something id like to see other platforms in the distance..

Plus it seems the area that slave and MF is landed is identical from architecture pov

Also also when the team tries to stop boba fett when cheie shoots at the ship leia blinks for a sec. anything to be done there?

Those props look amazing, Ady! And I wouldn't fret too much if some bits on them aren't "perfect." As long as they right on film, that's what counts. I LOVE arts and crafts and seeing you make actual props for this edit blows my mind! :D

No worries. It wont show in the finished footage. Most film props look crooked when examined at close range in real life. As long as you're not going for a detailed close up it's only a waste of time building them with millimetre precision.

vaderios, while it's always neat to see whatever excellent mock-ups you come up with, I'm not sure about your perspectives here, and have several reasons why I think this particular building is just fine anyway without needing the extra work of an overhaul done to it.  I wish I had the time to explain why just now, but you know I'll get back to you on this when I can.  (with screenshots I now need to organise....)

Your penchant for 'lighting' issues of all kinds are well known and some of your alternative takes can be a marvel to behold, and I've a couple of thoughts to do with that aspect too.  However, you've made me notice something subtle that's missing that I would like to see added if possible, which I'll cover as well when I get the chance.  :)

Adywan, that latest tweak involving your 'Falcon approaching Bespin' preview makes that awesome shot even better now.  And neat to see those work-in-progress shots of your backpack moulds.  I'm assuming that Rogue Leader's footage will be mainly fairly 'distant' shots of extras, and that the majority of the various prop details will probably be mostly un-noticeable anyway.  Nice to know that things are turning out to be a close approximation of the original props, even though.

Rogue Leader, good to know that you have an alternative in mind if there's no snow nearby to film in, by the time you're ready.  I guess even a reasonably lit, big ol' white building/studio space interior somewhere could be fine for filming against, for Adywan to matte whatever 'long shots' of the extras he's using?  Fingers crossed for actual snow though.

The perspectives are ok :) Its the shape of the building that makes that look awkward.

I was sure it could cause some weird feelings..

If you see this from architecture pov the building makes no sense at all :P

Remember im from an other school from ady..

Besides ady already confirmed that this error is fixed already.. :)

However, you've made me notice something subtle that's missing that I would like to see added if possible, which I'll cover as well when I get the chance.  :)

awwwwwwwww :(
