yeah, but i read that tie fighters don't have sheilds as the empire says it will make them fight harder.

The matter is the movies.. What you can see and learn from them.
There is no indication that the Ties have no shields because both rebel and empire ships are getting blown with 1-2 hits. Only luke got it right :P
Now dont assume what you read from EU or SW books..into the movies..

No assumptions that the EU fodder will be in any of this... I think the conversations deviated from B-wings cockpits that are in ROTJ but were converted to Y-wings for convenience. =D
Would love to see the gyroscopic effect that B-wings are known for *cough* that are in the EU *cough*. XD

Still i was considering making a list of what things we really learn from movies and how many info is incorporated from EU and books into the general star wars discussion dictionary..
So yeah i assume the ties that drop bombs are Bombers but the interceptors are still Tie fighters..
(IMPERIAL SOLDIER: Lord Vader, ship approaching. X-wing class.)

No mentioning about Y wings or B wings or A wings.. etc etc etc....

I wish Porkins had survived personally.
With Wedge there could have been a great opportunity for a background double act spanning the OT (a mirror of the foreground double act of Artoo and Threepio).
He could have been the Sammo Hung of the Star Wars universe only squeezed into a cockpit too tight to eject from.

That'd be interesting actually... a back to basics for SW... As much utter crap I do know concerning the EU I do wish that they would stop coming out with utter garbage to explain stuff. Some things just do NOT need to be explained ie The Force/midichlorians. =P

I hope I'm not breaking any confidences by disclosing that the PM was essentially just a list of things that appear or are mentioned in ANH.
Which Angel thinks could do with with reconsideration.
As most of the reconsideration would be backwards the few ideas it has provoked already are mostly of a PT nature than an OT nature so possibly more a job for the Prequel Redux thread than this one.
I shall post some of my responses when I get a chance.

I'm starting to get a bit confused myself.
Essentially I received a list of words from Angel of characters, phrases and things that appeared in ANH, I'd post it on here but there wouldn't be much point as you could possibly figure it out yourself.
I think he is trying to provoke a rethink of what the sequels and prequels would have been like if we just used concepts in ANH as clues, like why does Artoo call Threepio a mindless philosopher when we don't really get much evidence of him philosophising ?
That could be worked in as being a PT era Threepio trait before his memory was erased.
Just one example.
I haven't a clue how that could be worked into the sequels to ANH but it might be a springboard for PT ideas.
Does that make sense?

I think the confusion is stemming from Bingo's replies to Angel concerning the PM he sent to us and so everyone else is only getting half a conversation with no real context.
It was a list of words which essentially break down ANH for the information we CAN draw from that movie. The SW "dictionary" at it's base elements.
For example we don't really know what starfighters the Rebel were flying in ANH till ESB when that Imperial officer says "ship approaching X-wing class". Even then the X-wing is never mentioned in ANH. The Y-wing is never mention in all the movies so they wouldn't be on any list. Neither would the B-wing or A-wing...
The basic term "X-wing" is missing from the ANH list as info we known but would be on the ESB list.
Essentially it's breaking down the basic elements of SW to what we do know starting from the original movies.
Thus far only ANH has been broken down as it's a work in progress. =D
