I will say that as much as I am impressed with and love the new shot...there is a part of me that likes the simple hard cuts of the original.

The PT is full of flyby shots just like this. In fact, I believe there are no flyby shots that are made up of two different shots (one shot with a ship coming up towards the camera and the next shot with the ship moving away).

I'm not saying I don't like the new type of shot. I'm not saying the shot can't be effective. In fact, there are some I really like...it's just something I noticed in the PT specifically and I thought it was over used, IMHO.

Again, I love what Ady did with the shot. Not trying to start anything.  :D

It's easier to add shots like this to the OT than take away shots like this in the prequels?

I know what you're saying SSWR, but I love flybys.  And it doesn't stand out like the ones ILM did in the SEs.  I think its short and subtle.  Now, if Ady redid EVERY shot like this, I'd have a problem...

Let's break up all the fly by shots in the PT Revisited then. ;)

But do you have any idea how hard they are to pull off convincingly?  I'm not talking about creating the shot - I'm talking about the actual flying.  Forget space camera placement and all that jazz, 'cause the real skill is in piloting that ship as close as you can to the camera without taking out either the camera itself or the crew.

Trust me on this, when you've done one successful flyby, you'll want to do 'em over and over again.

Actually, I'm not quite conviced of this. This is a really quick and kind of crude way to do it but: depending on the shot you chose you could simply select and freeze frame a background, then roto in a ship flying past.

And again, sometimes I think they are a very appropriate type of shot to use.

One of my favorites is from ROTS right after Obi's line: "Another happy landing!" A really nice flyby shot! :D

Again to be clear, Adywans new shot is wonderful. And my guess is it will look great with the rest of the movie.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't like that either...but it is his baby!  ;)

Yes! Or at least most of them! ;)

i doubt ady ever would. though he's improving the movies, he wants to keep some of the classicness in it.

I know that he wouldn't.  That's why I trust him on this shot. :-)

Man I really hope this will be ready by the end of May. I have a 30th Anniversary Empire Party planned and would love to unveil Ady's cut then on a 130" screen in 7.1! :D

Sorry flan, Ady says no way on the May.  He hasn't even started work on the models he wants done!

One interesting thing with the new shot is that when the CBS Digital guys re-did Star Trek with new FX shots, this was something they did as well: took a two-part flyby of the Enterprise (ship comes towards camera; cut; ship's flying away from camera) and did a lot of the smooth flybys.

Looked fantastic when they did it; looks fantastic when Ady did it.  I love it.

It's how you'd watch a fly-by in real life; you wouldn't shut your eyes, turn around, and open them again.

I loved Adys clip its very reminiscent of the Yavin Flyby & has me wondering if he has anything planned for RotJ:R LOL

I do that everytime the missus walks past...Just shut my eyes while she walks past....makes things a whole lot easier

Great flyby shot Ady.  One question, I see you changed the location of the Bespin sun.  It doesn't bother me, I'm just curious to your motivation.  I know in the original approach scenes we see sunlight from multiple directions, but this never bothered me.  I always just assumed Bespin had more than one sun, like Tatooine.  Keep up the good work, it's coming along nicely.

I'm just curious to your motivation.

Continuity..

In tatooine we got a clear state that this planet has two suns as establishing shot with luke...

In Bespin we dont.. Assumtions and only leading to debates, so get rid the multiple suns..

Tatooine is unique to its kind why bespin has to follow?

That gave me a nice chuckle.

Adywan, this might not be very constructive, but wow, that flyby looks like a million dollar shot (okay, maybe not a million, but you know what I mean). The sunrise looks spectacular, and the motion is perfectly smooth. The comparison clip shows just how incredible this shot is. I understand the point that was made about dynamic flybys perhaps being overused in the prequels, but I think this will fit into ESB:Revisited just perfectly. Thanks for the 720p!

Is the new fly-by the final version of that shot?  Or are the SFX still being tweaked?

Its wip as ady said..

The last time he commented the static shot in Facebook the already elements of the image were final..

I assume this will have some  minor fixes and elements to be done

Wow, vaderios sure is in shill mode. ;)

Anyway, not sure what else could be done to the shot. I mean, it even has other ships flying around the city as they're approaching!

I know.  But the Falcon still has a very big "I'm special effects" feel to me, personally (I don't know how far Ady's effects software can go, though).
