This Looks so much better. It's like 1 fluid shot instead of multiple cuts. Simply Awesome!

Ah, the new shot fixes the lighting error with Bespin's sun on the clouds. Looks great! I also like the way the Falcon & cloud car block out the sun for an instant as they pass in front of it.

Kudos to Angel and Doubleofive for getting the comparisons up so quickly!

Thanks for sharing, Ady.

With all this talk of a US filming unit it has me very excited!!

Will we see Rebel Troopers and Snow Troopers fighting it out in the snow fields of Hoth?!?! It is something I suggested a long time ago (with others).

I do know that Lucasfilm originally had Snow Troopers in these scenes. A book (I lost years ago) called the Empire Strikes Back Notebook had storyboards as well as the script. In the story boards it had a couple of scenes of Snow Troopers running underneath the AT AT walkers.

Here is the book.

This is all very exciting and I wonder what Ady has truly planned.

Matticon

I was able to track down a copy, there are some AWESOME storyboards in here. Here's just a couple:

Thanks Tobar!

I owe you a debt of gratitude. I knew my memory was not faulty.

That would be so cool to see AT-ATs step on troops!

Read "The Secret History of Star Wars" (2008, in print) by Michael Kaminski. It's quite enlightening.

This is like the fourth time I've seen you mention this in the past few days.  Are you a sock?

;-)

On the contrary, I was merely extolling the virtues of this amazing and revolutionary product by Mr. Kaminski (who has not paid me large sums of money to say this).

And if you order in the next ten minutes, I'll throw in one of these attractive sleeping bags (a great value) at no additional cost!

;)

Kurgan, glad to hear you have also read this masterpiece.

I to discovered it about a year or so ago. You will be happy to know that Mr. Kaminski follows this project and posts here on occasion under the handle zombie84.

I contacted him awhile back via his webpage which also has some great articles. He was very helpful and answered all the questions I had about his book.

Ady's working in 720.  1080 was choking his machine (and he's got a QuadCore!) and there isn't enough alternate material in 1080 for him to work from to do everything he needs to do.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

As always the clip is awesome and very much appreciated Ady! Peace...

720p is better than people give it credit for. Most of us are going to be watching it on 50" to below televisions anyway. Yes 1080p is great, but I know where Ady is coming from. I started working on Spaceballs in 1080p, and my computer was really slow and I got the bluescreen of death several times. So I had to scrap my work and start new with 720p.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

It's a shame it's not in 1080p, it would stop it from becoming an 'evolution' project where the work done by Adywan can be then tweaked and added to by future project members continuously.

So Adywan, without giving anything away, of course, how many 100% new effects shots like that Falcon approach will there be in the final product?

Assuming and only:

Some of the Hoth hangar shots will be replaced..

Ady said that the carbage shot in space is replaced/improved(?)

The new TIE fighter collision shot in the asteroid..

New wampa shots

The new bespin Arrival/exodus

New Rebel live action shots with the shield generator under Ming's Direction

New improved shot with the rebel medical frigate..

Logically..

When the gandark/mynock flying vampire, kisses the glass of the falcon,

in the next cockpit shots shouldn't be visible the remains of the juicy kiss?

So again logically they should clean it up when they leave again from Bespin, after the falcon got maintenance from lando's crew?

Or the falcon has windscreen wiper? :P

Plus when R2 tries to open the second door in the bespin exodus.. we see in the close ups that it still emits smoke from the electricity failure in the previous shots.. But when we cut to chewie, R2 in the background isnt emits any smoke.. :)

Well we can't assume Han is an automotive genius. I believe the only modifications he made to the falcon were:

Satellite Dish

Couch

Windshield Wipers

Spark Plugs

Not me, i'll be watching it on a 122" screen.

So what processor would handle editing 1080p with out killing the system?

I can't imagine why it would choke a quad-core system unless Adywan is building all frame to frame elements together in After Effects such as colour correction, new frame and multiple effects layers and allowing them to all process at once.

Shall we all pitch in and buy Adywan a quad octo-core behemoth for a 1080p Jedi?

As I recall, the main reason Ady chose not to go 1080 is because source material for some new elements is largely SD and would look terrible against 1080 ESB footage, not because it would choke his computer...

This is true also. Both reasons factored into ady's decision. The man does not make any decision lightly! :)

I thought that scene would've come after 3PO saying his line. Can't even remember where I read it now anyway! Hmmm. And where would you get the extra dialogue and character reaction footage from? Guess I didn't think that one through!

The Falcon approach to Cloud City is pretty damn impressive. Glad you're ditching that Godawful and unnecessary Vader dialogue and footage. What was wrong with 'Bring my shuttle' anyway?

I will say that as much as I am impressed with and love the new shot...there is a part of me that likes the simple hard cuts of the original.

The PT is full of flyby shots just like this. In fact, I believe there are no flyby shots that are made up of two different shots (one shot with a ship coming up towards the camera and the next shot with the ship moving away).

I'm not saying I don't like the new type of shot. I'm not saying the shot can't be effective. In fact, there are some I really like in the PT...it's just something I noticed and I thought it was over used in the PT, IMHO.

Again, I love what Ady did with the shot. Not trying to start anything.  :D

<hesitant> It's easier to add shots like this to the OT than take away shots like this in the prequels? </hesitant>

I know what you're saying SSWR, but I love flybys.  And it doesn't stand out like the ones ILM did in the SEs.  I think its short and subtle.  Now, if Ady redid EVERY shot like this, I'd have a problem...
