Just got back from Edinburgh after last night seeing Hayseed Dixie in concert (great fellas and nimble pluckers all).

I really only went to see Edward Tudor-Pole who was there in what seemed to be a begrudging supporting capacity though he was in fine fettle even if his energy, wit and curmudgeonliness didn't go down that well with the confused hardcore Hayseed fans.

I was given all manner of derty looks for actually participating in the audience participation part of his slot (ooooh Matron).

I however was won over by the main act and shall return to see them again and again should the situation be possible.

LeBron James has petitioned the NBA to change his jersey number to #6 next season, out of respect to Michael Jordan. Good thing he picked #6, since no important players ever wore #6.

Kobe Bryant did this a couple of years ago and so did Amare Stoudamire. This is crap. When I run the world, I am going to insist that a player pick his number when he starts his career and he is tethered to that number for the duration of his career. He may not change it unless he is changing teams and that number is unavailable on his new team. Once his number is established on the new team, that is his number for the duration of his career.

If a player goes to a team and a retired player offers his retired number to the new player, I'm OK with that.

No, not really.

Survival of the fitest. Only the good die young. Nice guys finish last. Etc. There is no such thing as justice, if you want to get a head in life, screwing people over may just be the best policy. Stab your enemies in the back and your friends in the front... and so on.

Of course, if you really do hold on to some good old fashioned honesty, integrity, and chivalry; you never know what kind of cool people you might impress.

Me too, but college more than pro.

Anyway, I noticed hot.like.olie didn't post any "Happy Week-end" pictures this past weekend.  What's up with that?

I just went to see Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland (my first taste of the new wave of 3D movies).

Not only was it incredibly expensive but after getting there early and waiting to go in on the cue of the jobsworth at the inner house, the time came to go in and it was then that the fore-mentioned jobsworth decided to tell me I would not be allowed in with my rucksack (which I brought with me to do my shopping afterwards and had not been mentioned when I paid for the tickets or was directed to join the line).

After much vocal complaint I was compelled to line up at the entrance again to deposit my bag (by the time I got in the film was almost starting and the choice of seats was limited).

Women were allowed in with huge handbags and when I pointed this out all it was met with the classic Nuremberg defense.

I had to line up again to reclaim my back at the way out.

Great film despite the fuss (even if the same guy walked in front of me four times).

The 3D effect worked rather well most of the time in the context of that film (though it's not suited for every film).

It reminded me of early three colour tinted films in relationship to the introduction of colour, I imagine in the future the technique will improve and perhaps the language of cinema may need to adapt to it (the illusion is broken when very near objects cross the frame of the screen and a wise film maker may frame shots to avoid this effect for a better 3D experience).

There was a nice 3D trailer for the next series of Doctor Who too.

Don't you love it when a day starts out well and ends perfect? There should be more days like that. I wish there were save states in real life, just save it and reload it whenever you want to experience it again.

I've often had that same thought.  So many things I would undo (not do again) if I could just find my save from yesterday.  :(

I meant reload it and experience again exactly how it happened. I wish we had the mental ability to save all of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations from a particular event, and play them back verbatim.

With mistakes and stupid things we do, it is better just to learn from them and move on. But some feelings and moments are so utterly fantastic, it is sad to trust them to the awful leaking human brain. All our greatest and fondest moments in life are doomed to be lost in the recesses of our memories. Kind of depressing.

So i don't double post here...

-I don't watch poker on TV, but I do see it when I'm flipping channels. Why are those guys allowed to wear sunglasses and hats and hoods and all that stuff? I always thought "tells" were part of the fabric of poker, and managing your own tells and reading the tells of others was integral to the game. But in those competitions they just mask the tells right out of the game! How stupid.

-Is that Guy Fieri hosting that new "Minute To Win It" game show on NBC? Ugh. Somebody do something about this. The premise of that show seems interesting, but that blonde-dyed prick will definitely keep me from giving it a first look.
