The Edits -

I have obtained several copies of this version over the years and we are discussiing TWO new restoration projects. Starting today the projects will include restoring the complete 3 -Hour NBC Original broadcast cut (Full Screen) as well as creating an extended fan edit of the film in full widescreen.

For this restoration we will be using:

King Kong - Japanses laserdisc w/ original englsih audio soundtrack
King Kong - An original german television airing
King Kong - BlueRay Transfer from the now OOP European Disc.
King Kong - American Paramount original DVD and VHS
King Kong - American DVD release
King Kong - Dutch DVD widescreen
King Kong - Austrailian DVD widescreen
King Kong - 3 - Hour Televison Broadcast - 4 different copies -
Kng Kong  - French DVD
Some of these DVDs and Videos include alterate angles of footage in which we will use for the fan edit.

King Kong - The Legend Reborn - The NBC Broadcast - Notes -
The three hour edition will include digitally restored picture and audio. This version will be presented in Full Screen open matte to retain the original NBC broadcast aspect ratio.

King Kong - The Legend Reborn Fan Version - Notes -
This version will be a fan edit of the film and feature a all new 16:9 Anamorphic Widecreen transfer in 2:35.1. I have obtained an extras scene that is not available anywhere form an OOP japanese laserdisc, so this will truely be a special edit.

If anyone follows PhineasBG and Nighthawks edits which include the Highlander 2 Zeist Editions, Halloween 5 PBG Cut and the upcoming Dune: Third Stage then they will know we are out to have fun. Often we (joyfully) spend several months or even a year in some cases (Highlander 2 EZV) to finish and edit. We also tend to be in no hurry to provide sub-par projects and will spend tons of time gathering material, going over possibilities, discussions, audio and video tests, gathering information, script searching, hand-painting scratches out of film, hand cleaning dirt, etc. In the end we want to create these projects for our enjoyment and hope others will enjoy them along with us. If you have any King Kong material which you would like to donate for the DVD editions please contact us.

This movie has a special place in my heart because I own an original BETA taping of this version. I watched the airing with my father when it originally aired and he recorded it fotr me on the player. I remember years later we lost the tape and we searched for it for years. I also kept a watchful eye out for the airing of the extended version but they never aired it again ( Much like the alternate cut of Eastwood Dollar movie ) Later I found the tape in a box Marked (TAPES to throw away) go figure, thanks MOM, lol! . I can promise you regardless of what people think of this film (subpar remake, etc,) that we will put the full effort into the restoration of this CLASSIC broadcast.

For the record I love the film. Well mostly because I think they did an awesome job on KONG and ofcourse I like the DUDE Jeff Bridges, he rules, as well as a hot supporting actress (we all know who) HOT!!

Thanks
NOTE: WE HAVE SEVERAL EDITS IN THE WORKS BUT I WAS BORED SO I CREATED A TRAILER. THIS PROJECT IS (WHAT IT IS, A PROJECT) PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DISCUSS.

The only thing that would make the fullscreen extended version worth all the effort is if somehow you recreated the NBC Movie of the Week opening fanfare and logo, as well as the pre-credits preview scenes complete w/ narration for BOTH parts, as the film itself was originally split up into two different movies by the network, like a two-part mini-series, that aired on two separate evenings (the first part on saturday and the second part on sunday).

I remember all this because I was very upset that the first part that aired on a saturday ended just after Kong made his first appearance and started smashing through the jungle, before he even battled the giant snake if my memory serves me correctly. Then on sunday night my mom wouldn't let me watch Part 2 because she considered it a "school night" (she wanted to make sure I was well-rested enough for school monday morning). I was so pissed off that the memory is burned into my brain to this vvery day. This must have been sometime in 1984 because I distinctly recall seeing teasers for 'V: The Final Battle' during the broadcast of Kong, and that looked totally awesome to my young eight year-old sensiblities!!!
