Blu-Ray is a waste of money. Even if you notice a difference when you're right up next to the screen counting the pixels, you won't notice a difference when you're at a comfortable distance from your TV. Now, if you had a film projector and a screen the size of IMAX ..........

There is a BIG difference between DVD and Blu-ray (450i/p compared to 720p/1080p). Granted, it helps that you have a 50 to 65 inch HDTV (or bigger), as Sorcerer is kinda correct at least when it comes to smaller screen sizes (30" and smaller). If you are going to go Blu, make sure you have a big screen TV to go with it.
PAL has better resolution than NTSC, so if you can find a DVD/Blu-ray player that can play PAL, that would be the best version to get.
