Well im working on a mockup when the beam is continuous and not just a shot. With that concept can justify, adding more rebel capitals instread just a few.. change the cannon shot like i proposed with a more detailed unfinished one(even i agree that shot needs alteration like Bingo suggested) And for michael bay's sake better visuals of the cutted instead of boom ( See starship troopers for ideas)
