It's not so much that Lucas doesn't care, it's that he cares DIFFERENTLY.

And that's what disturbs me.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

I recently saw Citizen Kane. I understand why it is one of the greatest films of all time. Empire Strikes Back is definitely in the top ten for me. Definitely the best star wars film. I think when people look back, they will view the originals (if Lucas ever decided to release the original versions onto DVD) as the classics they are. The prequels will be to the originals as Oasis is to the Beatles. The Beatles being the best and originals, and Oasis merely being a pale imitation. Though I did find Episode I and II enjoyable, they can not begin to compare to the original series. If Lucas is smart, he would put out all versions and let people decide for themselves. We can only hope.

Actually, I'd up the ante and say that the PT is to the OT what Blur is to the Beatles; you can see the influences, and it's not as good, but it cannot be entirely discounted.

Yes, it is definitely in my top ten. It's amazing as I was not around, or were my parents (I'm 28) when the film was made. Also in my top ten are Hard Day's Night (surprise, surprise; I'm sure ), Empire Strikes Back, Give My Regards To Broad Street (personal macca favorite of mine, didn't do well commercially), Imagine: John Lennon, Raiders, Temple of Doom (1st Indy movie I saw in theaters), Star Wars, Star Trek II and VI probably round out the list of top ten. Other favorites (no particular order) would include The Doors, Wall Street, The Fugitive, and Man on the Moon. At least those are the ones I can think of right now.

However, yes, Citizen Kane is in my top ten because the theme of a man's life, growth, personal demons, corruption, and longing for innoncence are universal themes. These do not change no matter what decade we live in, what our background is, or who we are.

The toys suck? WTF? Yeah, my Republic Gunship and 13 inch Darth Vader with removable helmet really suck. What was I thinkng? And that Hellfire droids with 30 missiles that actually fire is a peice of crap too.

And Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic? Pure crap. Man, I'm so mad I bought an XBOX just so I could play it. What a waste of money.

And the new movies? Man, that fight between Darth Maul and Obi Wan was really poor. And the footage from EP3 with Anakin and Obi Wan fighting looks like it will be total crap at all.

Man, I sure am glad I came to this site,. Otherwise I would have spent $50 on Republic Commando. A Halo-like Star Wars game where you play and ARC trooper? Why the Hell would anyone ever want to play that?

And don't even get me started on the books and comics. Shatterpoint? Mace Windu is a lame character. Who gives a damn if the Jedi are having trouble dealing with being soldiers in a brutal war? And who the heck wants to read a story in which Boba Fett tacks down his prey without saying a single word?

Man, I should thank you guys for all the money you are going to save me? Maybe I can get a refund for my Hyperspace account, because that Grevious guy looks so lame.

For the sarcasm impared (which I am guessing is 95% of the people on this site), that was sarcasm.

Not all of us think the prequels suck, Lord Peeler; they just don't hold up as well to scrutiny as the Original Trilogy does. I enjoyed both TPM and AOTC, and am looking forward to Ep III. They just won't have the same special place in my heart as the OT does. I am not a rabid collector of toys, videogames, books and other merchandise; I am a movie fan, and as such want to see both versions available on DVD. Quit trying to pigeonhole us; we are individuals with differing experiences with the SW franchise.

Sorry, but that's a movie I would NOT recommend. I live in Austria, and that sickening, corny "ahhh, the hills are alive and we all dress like that and live happy lives in this beautiful nature country"-point-of-view of what Americans think all of Austria looks like is just rediculous.

Besides, only Americans and Brits consider that a "classic movie". It's definitely not a classic in non-English speaking countries. (no offense there!!! ... just a fact) I hadn't heard of it, until I happened to have a British girlfriend who forced me to watch it. *lol*

Horrible, horrible movie (bad music, too).

See, I would consider The Sound of Music to be a kitsch classic; it in no way represents what really happened with the von Trapps, but can be enjoyed for its inherent campiness. I prefer Richard Rodgers work with Lorenz Hart over his work with Oscar Hammerstein II; Rodgers and Hart material simply has more bite.

I have to say I had a lot of fun watching the prequels and AOTC surpassed my expectations. Spiderman (the direct competitor), on the other hand - kinda disappointed me because they cut so hard on the action (after the reviews I expected it to be an opulent action spectacle, which it absolutely wasn't, imho).

No, we don't think that. Not all of us, at least. Just cause one twisted bastard decided to impose his view of Austria on the rest of us doesn't mean we all fall sucker for it. Some of us are, ideally, a bit wiser and can make decisions for ourselves (our Prez notwithstanding).
