Could someone PM me a link to the color-corrected Phantom Menace? Preferably for Rapidshare.com since that's what I currently have a 30 day pass for? Thank you!

Could someone PM a link for the Ady 1080p corrected either Rapidshare or what to look fore on usenet? I have a giganews account but not sure which versions are available. I've seen Episode 1 and Episode 5 14GB version. Are the other episodes available color corrected particularly ANH and ROTJ?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!

I wanted to add, thanks so much Ady for your work. I love the ANH revisited... Can't wait for the ESB Revisit.

Your request has been fulfilled Krazyscotsman.  Only Episodes I, IV and V are available so far.

The EP V colour corrected 14gb mkv is astonishing.  It's the best version of ESB out there.  Haven't watched my retail 2006 Theatrical DVDs since Adywan released it.

Adywan,

I've been a fan of your work.  Your stuff has a natural flow to it that others seem to miss.

What I'm tired of (NOT your fault)....is people putting this stuff up elsewhere with titles that make them hard to distinguish from others.

I'm getting ready to watch the ESB Color Corrected edition you've done.  I will drop a note here about it when I'm done.

If I only had a blu-ray burner for the 14GB ones.....now THOSE would be awesome to see.  (If anyone has extra BD discs of the ones available I'd be happy to hear from you....drop me a pm.)

Thanks for all that you do Adywan.

:)

For some reason The Phantom Menace is refusing to burn correctly. It will get pretty far, but then at the end it always effs up and gives me an error message. I used to get problems like this every time I tried burning a 2-layer disc, but after switching to Verbatim ones I was able to burn the ANH Revisited DVD9 with no problems, so I assumed it'd be the same way with TPM. Six rather expensive coasters later though, I'm ready to give up until I can find out what's wrong and how to fix it. I'm using a Macbook Pro, and they have a long unfortunate history of being stupid when it comes to DVD+R DLs, and apparently even when using the correct brand it can still be a problem...

Can you control the burn speed?  Try putting it on the slowest possible setting.

Also try disabling stuff like your virus scan, screen saver, and any other background monitoring programs.  Some burners and burner programs are more sensitive to those than others.

Have you tried more than one burner program?  Which ones?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

I have no virus scan since it's a mac. However, I will try shutting down all the extra processes and then burning at a slow speed. Hopefully that does the trick, or else I'll have depleted half of my DVD+R DL for naught. :(

Also, the program I've been using is burn, but I also tried Toast Titanium 9 once and got the same results.

All I can think of it is that something might have gone wrong during extraction.  The same thing happened to me once, and I ended up having to re-download the archive.   I realize having to download it again isn't the most appealing prospect, but I'd recommend doing so before you waste another disc.

That's all I can suggest.  Sorry I can't be more help.  :-(

If the extraction was the problem (rather than the rar files) you might only need to try re-extracting, maybe with a different program.

This is why I always hang on to the rar files until I know the disc plays properly all the way through.  It is eating up my drive space, however :-(

Have a look if your Verbatim states the country of manufacture. If they state India then they are pretty useless and they cannot be guaranteed as being reliable like the proper verbatim ones that are manufactured in Singapore. Burn the disc at the lowest speed, which is usually 2.4x. Anything higher can result in a bad burn. It doesn't matter that you could burn at a higher speed with one disc because, if they are originating from India, the rest of the batch could be screwed.

Could you burn the image on a different computer using IMgburn?

Hope you get it sorted.

That's what I do too.  It's good practice.

I learnt this lesson the hard way.  It's a shame more archives don't have md5 files, but there you go.

I burned it with all other programs closed and at the minimum speed setting (2x) and it worked like a charm! Thank you Ziz!

BTW, the picture quality on this disc is great, Adywan! I think I've gotten so accustomed to The Phantom Edit though that I'd almost forgotten just how nails-on-chalkboard annoying Jar Jar is, lol. Deciding which version of Episode I to watch is going to be tough now, because while The Phantom Edit is a much more enjoyable movie, the picture quality is pretty much crap in comparison to Ady's AVCHD version.

I was never impressed with the video on The Phantom Edit.  There are other TPM edits (esp. newer ones) with better video, although not AVCHD quality...

There are a number of issues with TPE that keep it from being a true "replacement disc" for Episode I in the way that ANH:R is, most of them technically related. While the cuts made were very well chosen, in addition to the picture quality problems, the transitions between cuts are not always as fluid as with the original release, and there's the whole issue of the prank opening crawl which tends to take us out of the experience a bit.

His Episode 2 cut is the same story-- excellent choices for cuts (except Jango Fett vs. Obi-Wan-- I thought that scene was fine the way it was originally), but minor technical problems hold it back from being a true replacement disc, and there's the opening crawl.

As I said elswhere, I'm not a big fan of ANH:R as it is basicaly a Super Special Edition and also I don't give a **** about the prequels and therefore hate any attempts of altering the OT films to tie them in with the PT, which is something ADYWAN does in revisited and fair enough, it's his cut and if he likes the prequels that's fine by me. But IMHO it's butchering and the prequels should have been tied up with the originals and not the other way round.

I love ADYWAN's 1080p AVCHD color corrected versions, he made the SEs watchable by making Han shoot first and putting back the original emperor in TESB (the one in the 2004 version looked like the fat emperor from ROTS and not at all like the one from ROTJ, he would have to loose a lot of weight during those three years :-)  ) and the awsome color correction work on both films. Can't wait for ROTJ, so that I'll have the complete trilogy without the tying in crap (ADY said he'll remove Hayden and Naboo from ROTJ) with great color in the best resolution available.

If Adywan reads this, I'd like to thank him a million for the brilliant work on these 1080p versions and I'd like to aks him how on Earth did he make the emperor look so damn good in TESB as it apparently is not an upscale of the scene from GOUT because GOUT is nowhere near this quality and I don't think that even a very good 1997 SE LD transfer would suffice for making it look this good.

So if Adywan is making small corrections with the 1080p SE's like Han shooting first, Boba Fett's voice and Shaw at the end of ROTJ, what about that irritating Gungan shouting "Weesa free!" at the end of ROTJ? That's an annoyance that should be pretty simple to fix, methinks.

Author
Time

As I said, he said he would be removing the Naboo shot, which is where Jar-Jar (yes, I don't believe it's not him) is. And I'm all for removing that as I consider putting Jar-Jar in ROTJ no less than a rape... :-)

Author
Time

LOL, I guess it was a bit late at night when I red that so I missed it. Glad to hear it won't be in there at any rate, because Jar Jar has no place in the OT! Just putting up with him in the prequels is enough of a chore.

Since these are supposed to be recreations of the 1997 SE, Naboo will 100% be gone from the celebrations.

Just thought I'd post a little story and thank you here.

I brought up something about Star Wars at work one day a few weeks ago, and to my surprise, half the people I talked to hadn't seen it. Amazed in disbelief, I decided to have everyone over to watch them later this month. The place where I live has a little clubhouse thing you can rent out with a tiny theater room for about 20. Perfect.

I haven't seen Star Wars myself, aside from on TV and VHS a few times, since the Special Edition versions came out in the Theaters. Which at the time, I thought some parts were neat... but I didn't realize the Special Editions were at the expense of THE Star Wars I knew and loved. As the years have gone on, thinking about the Special Editions just annoys me more and more, and even parts that I thought were neat then, I've come to hate.

So when looking for what version to show everyone, I would like them to see the versions that made them the greatest trilogy of all time... you know... the original versions. I was excited to see that the newest DVD set included the originals! Perfect! Then I saw them........ I think my VHS tapes look better (slight exaggeration, I know). It's pathetic. And 4:3 means they won't scale to the screen. Eh.

Annoyed, I figured maybe I'd just show the dumb Special Edition ones. Little did I realize the Special Editions on the new DVDs aren't even the Special Editions I've come to know and hate... They've been changed again! STOP IT GEORGE. PLEASE. Han is supposed to shoot first, he's kind of a jerk. THAT'S THE POINT OF YOUR STUPID MOVIE. Then I have to see some deleted scene reinserted, where Han jitters up and down, no new information is offered, and everything is just repeated from the last scene. It was left out for a reason, wasn't it?  And now to make things worse, at the end of the whole thing, as the ghosts appear, Vader is now some teenager giving us a creepy stare? It doesn't even make sense! It's just weird! Then add in all the stupid breaks I take from the actual movie to watch Jawas flying around, or little robots do nothing, or animals running around, standing around, standing in the way, singing. STOP IT PLEASE.

Sorry, I got carried away there.

About to give up hope completely, I found this site, and ANH:R. I was totally blown away reading about it. I coudn't wait to look at it, and had a hard time finding it. To be honest, though, I had never heard about Fan Edits. I have to say, initially I expected any Fan Edit to be a poor hack job. Luckily I was completely proven wrong.

I can now say that ANH:R is THE best version of Star Wars I've ever seen! What an amazing job, man! I just can't get over how well done the whole thing is... it really is totally impressive to me. I just can't get over it! THANK YOU!!!

-------------------------------------------------------

Now I have a new problem. I was going to show ANH:R, and then just the bad looking original versions of the other two, when I found Adywans version of Empire. Again, very impressed, and excited for the fix (for yet another Lucas edit I was unaware of until this whole unfortunate revelation).

So now I'm showing ANH:R, Empire 1080p, and .................

I'm not sure what version of ROTJ to show! Should I show two great looking movies, then the original awful looking ROTJ? I think it's my only option. The CGI in Jabba's place is really awful, but it's only a minute or so. But I can't get over the ghost thing.

If the 1080p ROTJ was out within the next few weeks, I'd for sure show that, but knowing how much effort it takes, I can imagine that may be very unlikely.

I think it's almost worth just showing the original ROTJ in poor quality just for the old ghost. But then would it be distracting showing two great looking versions, and a bad quality finale? Going from two great looking versions to a bad one can be distracting. Is there another version floating around close to the original and in better quality (or even the 1997SE) that anyone would recommend? Anyone have any opinions?

Anyway... Sorry for the long post. I can't thank you enough Adywan. I'll try to donate a little once I can afford it, but it might not be able to be much, so I apologize.

Adywan, out of curiousity, what approach are you taking to reintegrating the Sebastian Shaw footage to the end of ROTJ? Are you upscaling the footage from the 2006 laser disc DVD transfer and compositing it with the HD transfer, or do you have a better source that you're using?

Author

That's what I wondered about, especially after Ady's ESB with the original Emperor. I didn't think stuff like this was possible.
