Maybe is the useless special effect of the day.

I thought it could be good having someone with something special on him with a doable way to brake the usual pattern of human officers all the time.

Since JarjarZod was important to the drafts it makes some sence..

Although...its an interesting concept. Those being seduced by the dark side showing some sort of visable scarring of evilness. Take ripplins eyes for example.

As Daffy as my Moff Thrawn mock-up intensionally was, it is a shame that this character was gelded in the final film.

In earlier draughts of the script he was more of a rival (in fact that scene kind of was reversed with Vader overseeing the construction of the second Death Star and Jerjerrod arriving to speed him up and warn him of the Emperor's displeasure).

Much of the relationship that was to play out between them re-surfaced as Prince Xizor in Shadows Of The Empire.

I posted elsewhere that the only way to really get anything like that would be to replace him altogether with a new actor delivering new lines but redubbing the current actor may make him sound a little less totally bricking it.
