Not a fan, honestly. The color changes take away the original's snapshot of the 80s look and make it look like everything's sharp and covered in saran wrap.
As for the backgrounds, does it really enhance the flow of the scene if the stars fly by faster past the Winnebago windshield?
I'd even be willing to overlook the garbage mattes in this movie, because there are garbage mattes even in the material Brooks made fun of.
It's a comedy so unless you can sharpen the jokes, I don't see the point in all the revisionism.
We, as fan-editors do not in any means, want to destroy the integrity of these films.
I didn't set out to destroy the original Spaceballs with lush colours, and sharp effects. I wanted to have fun with this film. In no way do I want to give Mel Brooks the finger and say look what I did.
Ady's fan edits of Star Wars, influenced me to give Spaceballs a treatment of that quality. This will still be the Spaceballs we all know and love, just as Ady's edits of Star Wars are still the Star Wars we all know and love.
If you like keeping the things exactly the same, I would recommend the Preservation Efforts section.
