That looks amazing! I hope something like this actually gets into the edit.

As for the dark thone room, there will be times when the room is much lighter than it was (if the sun is breaking through one side as in your mockup it will swing around eventually, actually if you timed it right having the sun come around when Vader turns back to the light might add some impact).
Hell yeah! :D

Less is more IMO. That seems too over-the-top.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
The darkness means you actually see less of the set.
Besides less is more isn't always true, like most things cliché there is more than a kernel of truth in the phrase but sometimes less is less and more is more.
I think it looks like the same set but adjusted to look like someone has bothered about the cinematography.

Imagine a black room with only lights from outside or some red blinks of control panels?
hmmm?

Is it wrong for me to be aroused by this image.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I really dig that darker set! It does worlds for making the set feel bigger.
As for Palpy's eyes, I say leave 'em the way they were. That was one of the things I always thought was freaky about Palpatine when I saw ROTJ as a kid, so I'd prefer to see it stay. They weren't quite as unsetting as the chimpanzee eyes from the OOT ESB, but they had an effect in the same ballpark, just to a lesser degree.

Not at all.
The person your searching for simply does not exist

His skin actually looks real in ROTJ. In ROTS, it looks like he's wearing a rubber mask and has 2 yellow pennies in his eyes.
that was his actual face, not the eyes, there was just a lot of make up involved.
Yeah, I know. Which is why I just don't understand how it can look so fake.
good point.
btw, awsome mock ups vaderios. ur an expert at this stuff! ;)

once again vad, you've done but i can't help but get a mass effect vibe from the planet picture you used(it'a a good thing)
how did you manage to overlay the film set on the background plz tell cause i'm trying to replicate what you did in the movie
Thanks!
No the planet is not from ME.
Simple cutout if i help :)
-Angel
I love what you've done to the throne room Angel - looks magnificent :D
Tayyab
The thing I like about it most is that though the location is as 'camera level' as it was in the original shot the tilted curved planet gives the room a sense of movement and asymmetry (something that would be intensified if the view was to rotate as it does in the original film).
There is also more variety to the colour palette (it not just cyan, gray, pale purple and charcoal, it adds is gold and red tones and rich defining blacks).
The original felt rather spooky and web-like but Palpatine didn't feel like the spider in that web, he seemed to be just as lost in all that gray as everything else.
Here you get a clear line up to the guy who is the centre of things.

Useless effect of the day
Aka ROTS chains... whatever there are already simple chains in PT, just thought a Luke skywalker must help up more tight... after the mistakes the sith did in PT as well.

I'm loving these new pics, Angel!

i think the first pic makes the set look fake, however more evil, like a sith's lair.
with the binders, i don't recall any energy binders in the pt, not a bad idea though.

Palpatine in Invsible hand :)

Loving the latest mockups Angel. You really have an eye for visually striking design.
coming soon a mockup of vad's excellent manip
this is it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKJtZm97SCA
To me Angel's dark throne mockups look like they are chilly (reflecting Luke's comment about the tree cave in ESB feeling cold).
The Dark Side seems to lend itself to feelings of cold and death and that look nudges Palpatine's lair into the same sort of place.

take some more :)
Well stylisticaly speaking Vader takes the lead to save luke now...
Lol that mockup was before the planet one so no background planet..
-Angel
Arrrrggggh!
Palpatine is now real horror show!
To be honest i didnt believe the blue panels can five some much live to the set...
Pity is buried in the background and with no uniqueness at all :(
It adds so much..

Re: the planet backdrop - it IS possible that tthe shuttle that collected Luke took off to anywhere, but with a seat and view like that, would Palps want to be anywhere but overseeing the Endor shenanigans?
Unless maybe this is a view from the other side of Endor - the DS is in orbit after all...
If endor is a forrest moon then maybe that is a planet that is otherwise out of view?
Re: the brighter Lights, i think that looks great.
Great mockups Vaderios.
Re: the binders, i dont think it is at all necessary, but it does look rather cool.
Danke^
Red blue combination...
