Television. Back then the music channels actually played music videos. You'd turn on MTV and it would be video after video (there was some other programming too, but lots of videos).

I laughed for about 10 minutes at Janskeet's question. Once I stopped, I realized the joke was on me - I now feel 1,000 years old.
