Let us know when you get done. =)
I can't customize MPEG-II, I can only customize MPEG-I. Assuming I can do it with that here are the defaults. What would I change?
Otherwise I just get this (MPEG-II): Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480
Thans, a lot ady, I know you're busy and I really appreciate the help!

Well that's strange because i can customize every MPEG2 profile within Vegas. Is the custom button greyed out when you select any of the mpeg2 profiles? Which version of Vegas are you running?
You won't be able to customize MPEG1 for DVD
This is what i get when i click on "custom" using the Vegas NTSC DVD template. As you can see i've been able to change the framerate & aspect ratio setting and i can change all the other settings if i wish too
Yeah ady it's greyed out. I can customize every other filetype and setting EXCEPT MPEG-II (no matter which Template I use)
EDIT: I'm using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro 9
EDIT 2: Ady this version of Sony Vegas is made to be more user friendly and I was told to just use the DVD-NTSC for DVD Architect as the template and it automatically uses drop-down although it doesn't point it out. I think it's because of the whole "home editing" thing they have going on that they feel the average editor wouldn't understand what drop down is anyways.
I'm gonna go ahead and go with the DVD Architect template (as suggested). When working on ESB I'll go through my program's Software Library to try and find just Sony Vegas Pro 9 (which is what I originally thought I was using). Perhaps by then I'll even be more comfortable with FCP.
Sorry if that was a waste of time, I didn't realize this version wouldn't let me customize the MPEG-II settings. Thanks for all your help ady!!! I'm gonna render the MPEG-II now.

I tried it once overnight and it disconnected again. I'm doing it again now and it's 11hrs through (with no disconnection) and it still has 18-19hrs remaining. I'll have to check it in the morning. (The morning where I am)

Damn, that's not good. I wonder why it is greyed out? That means you can't alter the bitrate. The default bitrate sony used is 6000kbps average, 8000kbps max and if your movie is more than 3 hours you'll probably find out that your final render will be too big to fit on even a DL-DVD without audio.
I can't understand why your version of Vegas won't let you customise the settings. I have the exact same version, but don't use it any more because i was so fed up with all the crashes and other problems with it, i went back to version 7. It does sound like it hasn't registered the Mpeg plug-in properly and just giving you a limited setup, but that doesn't surprise me with v9. Buggy as hell. Half the time with v9 it wouldn't even show me any mpeg outputs as an option. It's a pity you can't import the project file into an earlier version of vegas. V9 could be the cause of the problem you are having with the drive disconnecting all the time too.
No I think the drive disconnecting is either the cable or the power supply. If it disconnects again I'll try another cable.
The audio is set to standard DVD AC3. I exported audio and video seperately. The audio is good to go. Lets see how this video render turns out!!!

The render is complete for the DVD. Everything rendered properly and when things move fast, edges become kind of jaggidy. The WMV will be at the normal fps though.

So I'm new to this in terms of edits being completed. How are they obtained? PM, fanedit.org...?
Torrents usually or by mail. I'll be sending out copies with custom labels etc to people that prove to me that they have episodes I, II, III and IV otherwise, how you acquire it is non of my business due to the disclaimer that I'll post with the video. One more thing, don't think that I'll have the money to just print off labels and send them to everyone haha. I'll do a draw or something.

That sounds like an interlacing issue with the render. Did you perform a 2:3 pulldown removal before importing the video into vegas or just import the ripped DVD mpegs directly into vegas? If you didn't perform the pulldown removal first then that will cause you all sorts of problems because Vegas is useless as correctly identifying the pulldown or the correct field order.
I've also found out why you can't customise the MEG settings. Looking at my version again i noticed that mine is the "pro 9" version and not "studio platinum pro 9". They are 2 completely different products. With the platinum version everything is very basic and is even more buggy than pro 9. It seems also that the platinum version of DVD architect is also minimal which restricts the customisation of Mpeg and AC3 outputs
If you can get hold of the Pro versions of Vegas and DVD ARchitect then you can import your project file into that without problems and it will give you greater control over your video. You can get trial versions here:

What was the file size of the final Mpeg render?
I'm excited about this. Can't wait to watch it :)

The pulldown removal was done yes. I think it was just due to the final render not doing proper pulldown. I'll be rendering the WMV this weekend and then I'll retry the MPEG. The WMV should be fine, and most new DVD Players will fix the jaggedy edges during fast motion. I'm having trouble with the WMV profile. I'll have to double check everything from the last render I made in WMV and duplicate it. Also I just started on the first of many new posters to come, as well as a trailer.

cannot wait! really looking forward to this.
To ease the wait here's a poster I whipped up.

Looks awesome. Could've used a more intimidating picture of Vader, though.
I needed a full body shot without a lightsaber not from a video game in high quality. (Original Size is 2200x3400) If you can find another one, let me know.

What exactly do you mean by "jaggedy"? I suggest you post a screenshot or a short video sample, then maybe you could get help to fix it.
The encoding/rendering side of things is very important. If you put out a technically flawed release, then that will likely overshadow any artistic merit the project might have.
Take your time and get it right.

Well..... it's not full body, and I think it's from Force Unleashed, but it's VERY intimidating nonetheless and could be made to work very well, in my opinon:
How about these ones: (just right click>"view image" to see them full size)

Those are great, too. The helmet looks a bit off in the upper-right one, but to use the upper portion of the upper left one, or all of the bottom one (though that would take extraordinarily difficult cutting) could also look great.
i like the one in the upper left corner best. only suggestion i would make is used the pic from the Episode III cover of vader's mask.
