I been thinking about the "I love you", "I know" reprise in ROTJ.

As much as it's great to be reminded of the classic scene in the other better film it currently kills tension and drama.

Leia is shot and for a few seconds it looks serious but then she throws a goof ball and comes out guns a blazing.

It would make more sense if the Imperials surrounded the bunker, Han and Leia have their ESB lines reversed and Leia goes ape with her gun only to get shot and injured.

An AT-ST turns up and it looks like curtains for our heroes and then the hatch opens and we see it's Chewie, giving Han a plan.

That way the tension builds up to a climax instead of wobbling back and forth as it currently does.

agreed. Kershner would have made Leia's injury a serious matter.

You know, I was thinking about this particular scene the other day, and it could have worked out SO much better with a little tweaking:

I would have had Han shot in the back, being that the Stormtroopers came from behind him (would also fit with previous line about not seeing the Falcon again - doesn't mean the Falcon blows up BTW).  The troopers don't just mow them down because one of them recognizes the Princess, who has had a really nice reward on her head since ANH.  Trooper points out the Princess, says something like "I've been looking forward for this for a long time"; Leia says, "Yes, I bet you have" and pulls Hans gun out of his holster (or just cocks the gun backwards and shoots it out of the holster while still in it), shoots both troopers ala FISTFULL OF DOLLARS (with the gun in the foreground frame and both troopers in the back), with Han, stunned, doing a BRIDE OF CHUCKIE style "I love you" (the waterbed scene) and Leia just smiles (doesn't have to say "I know" because her facial expression says it).

It would not just be a nice way to bring it full circle to the first cool scene we saw Han in, but it would show that her personality is tuned in with (and has changed because of) Han in that she's now thinking like him.
