I think, if made, this would get the movie in at least a watchable condition.

Ah, classic Trooperman; charming humble to the last. ;) I know you think it is very rough, and sure, it is, but I can honestly say that this is by far the most interested I've ever been in watching AOTC, and you really delivered. I read your list of possible future edits and it would tighten it up to even better levels than it already is. Heh.

I have been away a long time, but popping back in here today and finding this thread alive and kicking a$$ is like Christmas coming early!  Great stuff, Trooperman!! I hope school is going great and life and all that important stuff.

I was honored and grateful to see an earlier cut of this when I was helping TM out with some story ideas-- I loved it then and watched it over and over. As many have said, I could "see what you're going for" at every change. The overall effect is to raise the movie up several notches because you make the characters matter. "Character" is the best special effect.

I'm thrilled that people are getting a sneak peek and contributing. This will definitely push the envelope in regards to what a lot of people think can be accomplished with a fan edit.  I'm glad you're back at the helm, Trooperman!

Trooperman, has InfoDroid seen the rough cut? I'd love to hear his input.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I don't remember.....

Thanks for posting, MTHaslett.  For anyone who doesn't know MTHaslett, he was the main driving force behind the love story aspect of SOTDS (and other aspects).  This wouldn't be what it is without him.

Hey MTHaslet!

How are you? Been a long time.  Hope all is well.

Infodroid has never seen this unfortunately.  I actually met Info for breakfast the other day as he was vacationing close to these parts.   We talked a little about the "old days" the Ranch, Reborn, etc....  Sadly enough he has no plans on revisiting any of that soon.  I don't think we will ever see him edit anything again.  :(

8. Somehow swap out the Independence Day shots for new Star Wars dogfight shots? (This is a tough one.  Adywan is the only one I know who could do something like that, but he's busy with his own project).

if youre desperate, could you use some footage from the latest episode of clone wars? its not perfect (aka being a cartoon) but there is some aerial battle footage i think. failing that there must be a computer game, or even a mod of a computer game that would make a useful substitute?

Hi TJDavis1138! Hi Trooperman! There's a reunion goin' on!

I am frankly hurt to hear bad news about InfoDroid. He is a great guy and has done great work (saving "Last Crusade" and "Temple of Doom" in my opinion). I was really looking forward to Crystal Skull edit.  That Starkiller Ranch thread was a heartbreaker because it was so fun, but that was when I went through a bit of a bad spot myself.

I think this edit is still in compliance with all the Starkiller Ranch ideas, so the work has not died yet. When I get ahead enough, I definitely intend to revisit that Episode I take we started. Someday there will be a Starkiller Saga.

Shroud of the Dark Side shows how long and hard it is to really polish one of these massive re-edits. But the result is so much closer to the movie I wanted to see.  And Trooperman is still working on it!

I still have most of the starkiller ranch stuff on my hard drive.  Including the cuts of Episode I we worked on. :)

Trooperman:  Is the cut your sending out newer than the one I have?

^^The cut I am sending out was finished in 2007. I don't remember what I sent you, but if it was in DVD video format (rather than in 20 different video chunks), then it was probably this. Good to hear from you too, TJ! Like you've said, it really is a shame InfoDroid has quit editing altogether. He was good at it.

Not to derail the thread to much,  but ID dropped the Crystal Skull edit completely.  ID's biggest problem is he hates the technology behind everything.  He's very creative and comes up with brilliant ideas at times, but gets very frustrated trying to get everything to work correctly.   He's not a tech geek like me.  :)

I understand the technology problem. I'm not afraid to learn, but a lot of times, I just lose interest. Any chance he could tell someone else exactly what he wanted to do with it and they could make it by proxy? ;)

Anyway, yeah, uh...the SotDS rough copy is cool. Heh.

TJ- Then it was the same thing as everyone else is seeing now.  You and ID just got a really really advanced copy....

Regarding the technology thing, that's pretty much my problem too.  There's only so many hours of sitting in front of a computer monitor and watching things not working and feeling the frustration beginning to build in you, before you start to wonder if the end product, however fun it might be, is worth all this frustration and time sitting in front of the computer.

That is why if I finish this, it will be a strategic strike- I will go in, hit the points I outlined on the last page, and try and do it as efficiently as possible.  I hope it works out that way, but fan edits (especially like this one) tend to eat a lot of time.

Consider this an OT.com exclusive!  As far as sharing a couple scenes over the net, go for it as long as it is made absolutely clear it's a test product, a rough cut, and not final work.

For anyone who missed the last couple months, feel free to PM me and I will take care of you.  Either someone who has the movie could mail you a copy (I think it's called the pay forward system) or I can maybe send more copies myself when I have time.  Knightmessenger, I remember you from years ago posting on this thread.  Please PM me and I'll get you a copy.  I'm sorry you missed the mailing.

PM sent, (very late I know). I think today is the first time I've visited this website since I posted about missing the offer back in late October.

Any secret developments on this? I still think this should be patched up and completed. The improvements in the love story alone are strong enough to carry this edit.

Someone was supposed to send me a workprint.... Anyone still willing? =)

mrbenja (and anyone else in the US), PM me your address and I'll try to shoot you a DVD copy in the next week or so. Just remember that Trooperman does not want this posted online.
