Angel comes to mind, with some of the tiny details he finds in certain single frames. Haha.

Yeah! Bring me cookies now! :D

Happy Christmas guys

There you are!

I love the hangar extension and the burnmarks in tawn tawn belt parts.(that was pretty neat)

Good that the door closes one time :)

Happy Christmas. CU next year :)

Wow the difference is almost like black & white vs color.

Adywan, just looking at the X-wing, chewbacca is hugging, makes your colour correction the best I have seen. The reds are so vibrant and realistic now. The skin tones. You got rid of the blues but it still looks incredibly cold.

It is worth the wait just for that brief clip.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Ahhhh! Thought it might eba bit small for a blockade runner. Really good stuff reminding me how horrible those 2004 DVDs really looked! I'm so looking forward to having this on my shelf!

Shameless self promotion...

Great clip Adywan. Although I'm not too fond of the flipped shots. I understand why you did that (reversed jacket and all), but I feel Han's movement in the next shot fits better with the original shots.

Anyway, it's just nitpicking!

For some reason this time around it seemed more obvious to me that the outside of the hangar doors is just a back-lit scrim.

Great clip! Thanks Adywan and Merry Christmas to you!

I do not fear the Dark Side as you do.

That's massively improved! Just shows how disgusting the 2004 DVDs look, including the fact that it's so dark you can barely see Harrison's face at times. I liked the bigger size of the hangar, too.

One thing, though... I'm not too sure about the shimming effect around Obi-Wan. It looks good in close-ups, but sorta 'copy-and-paste' from distance. I dunno, that's just the way I'm seeing it. Anyone else find this?

Uploaded a Visual Comparison of the new video.

http://picasaweb.google.com/doubleofive/ESBRFacebookLukeSRescueComparison

Also wanted to point out that Ben is a different color every time we see him in this sequence:

He seems really light when he first appears and really dark as he's leaving.  An affect of appearing as a Force ghost?  Or something that could be tweaked?

hmm... would it be conceivable to make the area from the edge of the cave to the door either darker or a gradual shift from a darker look to the lighter area of the inside hanger cave?  Compare to this shot:

Also, maybe the open area we see past Chewie could be tweaked to be darker and show storm clouds/winds going by (nothing far off in the distance, but something to account for the high-pitched wind noise when the outside area looks calm and open.

Also also, would it help get rid of the "set look" if it was either a little darker in all of the hanger scenes or some form of gradual lighting/darkening techniques were used (such as on the hanger wall where the X-wings are getting a shade darker as it went back to the Falcon, as well as maybe making the sides of the various hanger openings darker to help them stand out)?  I just know that uniform bright light always gives a set away and it would be interesting to see what kind of lighting technique mock-ups ("cough" Vaderios "cough") would look like...

Subtle, as opposed to J.J. lens flare stuff.. >:)

______________________________

Also also also, not that anything should be done much less can be done, but what exactly IS Chewie leaning up against?  Is that a landing leg for a ship or a support structure?  If the latter, how can anything (like the Falcon or the X-wings) get out of the entrance?  Also, is it me or is the entrance here much smaller than the one the Falcon escapes from?

You know, here's an idea... as someone suggested a while back, there could be multiple entrances.  Being that it looks like it is a catwalk/support beam (during the clip, you can see 2 rebels climbing down the side of the support leg/ladder), I suggest putting the larger opening the Falcon escapes from BEHIND the Falcon in some of the scenes, indicating that this opening is a smaller one for the Taun-Taun patrol, as well as give the larger ships a larger opening to leave out of WITHOUT running into that catwalk thing.

I would also like to go back and watch other clips of the entrance scenes to see if that catwalk structure is in it to see if there is any continuity.

EDIT: okay, I think I see what it is: it looks like a moveable platform that can be moved overtop any of the vehicles for maintenance or R2 removal/placement.  Even so, should some part of the X-wing (like the wings at least) be seen when C-3PO comes into the hanger, being that the portable catwalk is over the X-wing Leia and Chewie are by (as seen at 1:44)?

EDIT 2: at scene 2:08 you can see how wide the doors/opening is; should it be much bigger/wider?  maybe if at the least the area on the left is pushed off and the center point of the doors closing is put much further to the left side of the screen (which would be enough to account for a larger opening that would allow the Falcon a way out).  Or the door behind Chewie could be pushed to the right... anything to make the doors/ cave entrance big enough for the Falcon escape scene.

I neglected to say how awesome the color correction is!  3PO is actually gold now, instead of sickly rusted copper color.

Happy X-Mas holidays guys :)

Thanks for the greeting on Facebook Ady, hope you and your family have a smashing Christmas holiday and a Happy New Year - oh and the clip is awesome - the colour correction is superb and I love the subtle changes to the hangar bay and to 3POs golden plating.

Oh and if anyone hasn't seen this video - it's rather nice (and Hoth related):

hmm what exit is that? shouldn't the outside be sort of white and not blue?
Looks like there is a pool out there...with lights coming from the bottom of it shining upwards for a milky blue hue of light.

Just an observation, love the new clip, its very sleek !

The new clip looks really good, Adywan.  The color correction is astonishing.

I notice in the audio mix, Han still says, "get the shelter built" rather than "up".  I personally prefer "built", as it's what I remember from childhood: is this here to stay?  Or is the audio in this clip just temporary?

Please notice the BIG circles :)

Red: Here you see Norwegian tank tracks

Orange: A mere puff of smoke, lacks the explosion you see elsewhere and it does not make much of a dent in the snow either.

Green: What the h*ll is that guy doing? He is like pointed the wrong way!

Is he a Imperial infiltrator wanting to shoot rebels in the back?

If he sits still long enough the AT-AT might pass him by and he can fire away at it then?

Or is he a moron not noticing what has been going on? ;)

Notice:

look at the cannon behind him, it's also pointed to "us"..give dvd a spinn and see for your self :)

The clip looks very well done.  It is amazing how different the feel of the movie is with this wonderfully done color correction.  The red really sticks out in the hanger.

I cant wait to see our New Years present!  :)

I tried to make a mockup that showing blackness even with gradient and didnt look good. the blue is a stylized version of night. maybe more dark, maybe.

Or maybe show some subtle snowing. i cant tell .

maybe leave it as it have... :P
