No no no, he's removing the AT-STs from Hoth and putting them on Cloud City. ;-)
Yeah, it funny how that goes. There could be chages made all the time, but how are we supposed to know? I'm not gonna clear my cache every five minutes just in case, then go hunting for differences. Haha.

Clearing cache? why? refresh the page maybe? Firefox ftw

I've used Firefox exclusively for years now. :) I see the updated avatars now, but once upon a time, I had the same problem as ESF. People would talk about 'Adywan's new avatar' and I'd think 'what new avatar? It's the same old one.' Then someone suggested I clear my cache. I did, then I saw the new one. Refresh did nothing.
Aaaaaanyway, enough of that jazz. Back on topic, which was...AT-STs? Cloud city? Heh.

No, Cloud City is now in the Asteroid Field in the new video he's releasing to everyone who has a cameo, which he's sending to them along with the physical AT-STs he's removing from the movie.

Just as i think things are getting better i've had a pretty crappy couple of days. For about a week or so my monitor would suddenly go into standby mode while i was working on it and i couldn't turn it back on unless i turned it off at the socket and waited about 20 minutes and then it would come on again fine. Got to admit that i wasn't too bothered as the monitor came with a 3 year guarantee so if it went tits up i can take it back. Well its 18 months old now and that seems to be the lifespan of a lot of things nowadays. Well yesterday, while i was working on the edit there was a nice pop and a trickle of smoke coming out of the monitor. R.I.P. Gateway monitor. Well, like i said i wasn't too bothered. Well the store where i purchased it from is about a minutes walk away from me. So off i went, with the monitor and all its original packaging and the receipt to the store to get this thing either repaired or swapped. What a waste of time. Firstly they told me that it was only guaranteed for a year, even though when they sold it me it was advertised as three. I showed them the receipt and it stated 1 year warranty + extra cover 3. The they said that it was only 3 months extra warranty and not a 3 year guarantee, which was total bollox as i wouldn't have paid the price i did for a monitor that only had 1 year cover plus 3 extra measly months. I don't know anywhere that would ever offer just 3 extra months. I argued my case a lot then one of the staff came over and said that it was gateway that were offering the 3 year guarantee and not them. At last a result and someone that knows what they are talking about. They offered to ring up gateway to arrange a collection or swap for a different model so everything was sorted....
or so i thought....
The guy came back and asked for my full details and the receipt, then went back to talk to the people at gateway. A few minutes later he returned and said that they had no record of an warranty in my name. He asked me if i had filled in the warranty card and returned it to Gateway but i never had a warranty card with the monitor as i was told when purchasing that the receipt was my guarantee. They then said that the warranty card would have been given to me or that it would have been in the monitor box. Well i still had all the manuals & paperwork still in the box and there was no warranty. He said that there was nothing they could do but he would give gateway a ring again to see if there was anything he could do. But he came back and they refused to do anything.
So there you go. Don't buy anything made by gateway as they will just rip you off if anything goes wrong. Their attitude is just "computer says NO" (little Britain fans will get that one. lol) Admittedly the one guy at the shop did try his best and did try to figure out a way to get them to honour the warranty so i'm not pissed at the shop.
But with everything that gone on recently i almost feel like giving up ( but i know i won't). I've borrowed my daughters portable DVD player that has a video input and using the TV output on my pc i have a very vice 600 x 400 desktop which i can't do bugger all on. MY god, how the hell did we do anything on computers when all monitors were that resolution?
The couple of donations i received the other day i already spent on getting some styrene and a few lights towards build the 1 metre stardestroyer. Yes i will be building that for this edit instead of waiting for ROTJ:R because, after trying to replace many of the stardestroyers that needed to go, i decided that it wasn't worth building a small one when i would have to build a large scale one for ROTJ:R that i could use for every shot needed.
So now i have no monitor and its going to be about february next year before i'll have any money towards it. And before anyone says it, yes i have backed up all the files for the edit. I make a backup every week, including a backup of the backup just in case, so if a hard drive dies then i'm covered.
I guess a lot of the hardware problems are due to the lifespan just coming to an end. after all they say the lifespan of something nowadays is 5 years and that is based on a use of only a few hours per day. When you consider that this PC is usually on 24/7 its not surprising really
so, yes, you can say i'm gutted :(
Think of it as a bit of a forced vacation, Ady. I'm sure most of us here figured you were going to take a nice long break before starting on ESB:R after finishing ANH:R, and not jumping right into it, anyways... :)

You should ring them up, cough into the receiver, then hang up.
Sorry to hear about this setback. Is your monitor on 24/7 as well, or do you turn it off when you sleep? (wait, you don't seem to sleep...) The monitor I'm on right now is around 10 years old and cost me a whopping $6.
yeah I can understand yer frustration Ady, but look at itnthe way Mr. Bassen there puts it..a nice long vacation..where you can rest and let your mind be at ease for a wee bit of time.
You have us here to annoy you :) and you have your army of fans over at facebook to applaud you, we love you anyways.
Hehe you could make a donation button somewhere, facebook..here..there..anywhere really and go on a donation drive ? cake sale? raffles ? Lottery? :)
Let your creative thoughts flow now that you have some time for your family and friends !
Ps:
Might I ask if you have been able to get the fur?

I feel your pain Adywan.
Seems that no-one can necessarily trust any advertising or salesperson's word here these days. And a lot of them don't seem to know what they're talking about half the time when it comes to the technical stuff, where electronics goods are concerned. And whoever said the receipt was the 'guarantee' was obviously wrong in this case.
Sad that customers seem to need to be having to triple check info. they are given when it comes to 'warranty' matters these days.
It's frustrating for you in the meantime, but I've got a good mate who's a decent salesperson for our local 'Currys', and I'll check out what he reckons about this shop and 'Gateways' claims about all this.

That sounds good, I.F. :) Let us all know how that turns out. Could be interesting!
Has anyone dealt with salesmen who are a little too chummy/buddy-buddy? I bought a center speaker at Best Buy several years ago and anyway, the guy recommended that when the company releases a new version of the speaker, I should blow out mine on purpose and tell them to give me a new one. (which they might, but I'm not going to take that chance) Yeah...

well i rang gateway myself just to make sure if it wasn't the shop trying to fob me off and they told me the same thing. because i didn't fill in the warranty card and send it to them ( which i didn't have) then they cannot repair the monitor under the guarantee as its 18 months old and i would have to pay for repair. trading standards also told me that gateway are quite within their rights not to repair the monitor if i hadn't send them a fully filled out guarantee card :(
Does anyone ever fill out and send in those guarantee cards? :p (ok, yes, I...don't)
Geez, Ady, that's a shame that Gateway is giving you that kind of attitude. If that were me, I would continue to push the issue. I've had to call customer service and ask to speak to a supervisor more than once to get anywhere with things like that.
An excerpt from a New York Times article on warranties (from 2003):
"Federal law makes it possible for a company to require purchasers to register products in order to get the benefits of the limited warranty, he said, but in practice, such demands are rare. Some state laws ban manufacturers from making a warranty conditional on registration. A California law that takes effect next month goes a step further: it will require a notice on warranty cards telling customers that their warranty rights will remain intact whether or not the cards are mailed in."
From what I can tell, the warranty card has to tell you that you need to return the card in order for the warranty to remain in effect. If it doesn't say that, then the warranty is in effect whether the card was sent in or not, as long as you have the receipt. Of course, things are different between the States and the UK, and it seems like companies have a bit of wiggle room to screw you over. And in your case, there was no card in the box, so I don't know if you have a leg to stand on, but I'd still try to push the issue anyways. Example: I had Primestar (a satellite dish company) many years ago, and when I cancelled it within a month because of reception problems, they tried to hit me with a $300 fee. It took a couple phone calls, and I asked to speak to a supervisor, but when I was done, I didn't have to pay a thing.
Anyways, sorry to hear the bad news. I hope some good luck turns your way for the holidays. At least your mother is making a recovery!
I always knew gateway sucked but wow now I know they suck!

More technical problems, eh. Seems like a good sign to me. ESB:R takes after it's brother. Imagine how much trouble ROTJ:R is going to be!
^Hopefully there are plenty here who, like me, don't believe in jinxes, cuz that's a mighty jinx! ;)

Huh, A big star destroyer...
So any existing 2d element SD footage can i e expect to be replaced with a 3d look model like?
Wondering if 3d SDs can replace some far SD shots...
I know im kidding.
Good luck Ady. Cant wait to see the fur pics.

Adywan, you can register for your gateway warranty online without the card that came in the box, you only need the serial number on the product.
If it's still within warranty from when you bought it, you should get the benefits offered.

I feel your pain Ady. I had some trouble with Gateway a few years back (my PC wouldn't read my CDs properly). I was about 11 anyway so my dad tried to find out what the problem was and it turned out that we had a faulty hard-drive. I forgot what answer my dad got in terms of 'how to deal with it', but it must have been a bad one.
Hope you're all set for a great x-mas mate, I still need to buy 2 presents :O
Oh and I've signed the new petition for proper remasters of the OT btw (I'm number 248 - with a rather lengthy comment to Mr Lucas) :D
