I must say that, despite color correction and enhancement efforts, how well do they really work?  On VLC Media Player, if you boost the Contrast a LITTLE BIT, and the Saturation a LOT, the lack of color in the original file becomes clear.  Here's some stills from Adywan's own ANH Revisited to show just how much better still the color could be.  The top is the original, the bottom with the effects on:

While this is more 'colorful', I think Luke and Han mainly just look sunburned.

And the other images?

They all look over-satured, perhaps with the exception of http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb298/rpvee/vlcsnap-2009-12-04-14h52m31s35.png in which case her lips look over-satured, but her skin tone is fine. I still don't think that's how the original movie looked and I'm pretty sure Ady's CC goals are to revert it to pre-SE?

Well I'm just saying that the color can be brought out more to present what at least seems to me like more life-like coloring.  And personally, I think that Palpatine ROTS screenshot enhanced looks perfect, but maybe they are over-done to others' eyes.

It looks nice from a still-frame perspective, but you have to be aware of the contents of the scene. It's supposed to be a cold, dark scene, and the desaturated look help convey that nature.

Angel, have you applied the sharpening to  a video sequence yet?

There's only so much sharpening one could, or should, do to video. The DVDs are already pretty much as sharp as DVDs should be - a lot of TVs sharpen by default, as can some players. Your compression/quality ratio will also take a nosedive.

Here's some stills from Adywan's own ANH Revisited to show just how much better still the color could be.

"Better" is always a little subjective, but yikes! I find the DVD/ANH:R to be 10%-20% oversaturated already, though that's mostly because it's also too dark.

The blue on the rank badges.  Nice catch.  That absolutely should be fixed.

Not necessarily.  Remember, they're on a video screen, not live in the room.  Small areas of color get desaturated over transmission like that.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Left picture shall be fixed.

While it might look convincing to people living in 1980 (and those days home video technology) it is totally unconvincing 30 years later especially considering it is communication within the vessel. An organisation like the Empire that is capable of building ships like the Executor and travelling through hyperspace should be capable to generate undisturbed HD-quality within its vessels, shouldn't it? And we are talking about the command section of the vessel: Communication between leader and bridge, i.e. the most important sections!

We didn't see problems like this in the PT. I think it should be fixed, although it really isn't necessary.

i say just a thought to improve visual and de retroize the noise look (it has been mentioned before) is to take the exposure/light concept that we see in ROTS

and fit it to ESB only is several frames long.

i said again its an idea.

Desaturation yes. but not the blues becomes faded reds ;)

Good point. Maybe the empire have stereoscopic monitors instead of holograms? hmmm not a bad idea!

And a Sith Lord would want to enjoy the power of his Force grip in high definition, of course. Nothing else.

Is that the same idea from the beginning of TPM, with the queen on the wall?

It is an idea, but I would prefer to leave it the same.  It would take some of the emotion away from ROTS.  Also, adding it would shift the focus away from what is supposed to be going on in the scene.  Eye candy can't interfere with important plot advancing scenes.

I 101% agree with the issue of people quoting pictures to say something inane like "that's cool" or whatever. If there is something constructive behind it, fine, but how often does that happen?

Sorry. This post had nothing to do with ESB:R. Heh heh. ;)

On an added note, remember folks that you can click on the picture and use your mouse to downsize the pictures too... that way if you quote a previous message and kinda need the photo (since most comments wouldn't make a lick of sense without a source) you won't fill up the forum with a ton of huge pics.

for example:

the original was 3 times the size...

He does do a great job, but doing a still and doing it the same in motion are two different things.

Thanks for all the kind words and support guys. things are looking so much better now. She has really shocked the doctors,  and us, just how much she has recovered and how quickly. She is still not fully recovered, but getting there a lot quicker than we all thought. The doctors said she probably wouldn't walk again for at least 6 months because she hasn't been able to eat or had the strength to use her legs but she's walking already with the use of a frame. She was so determined to prove them all wrong and she did it. Now you can see where i get my determination from. lol

Looks like i've got a hell of a lot of catching up to do. I'm not back to the edit full time just yet, and probably won't be until after Christmas now, but i'm doing little bits here and there while i'm at home.

I haven't been able to get the Wampa fur from the Post Office yet because i can't afford to pay the customs charges just yet but i really hope i can get it soon so i can get this Wampa finished and filmed.
