I forgot to ask. Will you fix some contrasts? The highlights appears to be faded as well with the shadows. Subtle things, like ady did.?

Well I'll be damned, I knew Ep I's color was a little off but I never noticed that before.  That said JasonN, would it be possible to take Ady's color corrected Ep I and just replace your edited footage with it?

I'm also curious, what software are you using?

Here's a rough mockup of the idea I discussed of Jango/Boba getting a transmission from Palps, telling him to lead the Jedi to the seperatists. The screen would dissolve from the above display into the other.

Ok, color correction!  Here's a short clip from the beginning of the space fight that shows what I'm trying to achieve color wise.  Basically, I'm trying to remove the Red Hue that covered the entire movie, and make the colors more stark like in Ep I and the OT.

Until you had mentioned it, I was not aware that Adywan had done a CC-version of EP1. In tracking the AVCHD release down, however, I see that using it would pose some problems:

- he only color-corrected the main film; he hasn't touched any of the deleted scenes (so I'd still have to CC those scenes)

- the alien subtitles are hardsubbed into the video, which is a big problem since I've rewritten many of the aliens' dialogue in my fanedit

- I'd have to redo all of the "phantom Sidious" composites (huge pain in the ass to do again...)

- I've already color-corrected 1/3 of my edit so far

And my editing software is Sony Vegas.

He has two versions - there's his 1080p AVCHD that's color corrected, but it's the DVD cut, and his SD restoration of the theatrical version (DVD-9) that's also color corrected.

I don't know if the subs are hard-coded in the theatrical DVD version or not.

Interesting idea..Where would the dialogue be from.

There are probably lines and words in the movie that can already be used.  Even other movies he was in and interviews he gave could work as well.

Now finding words is one thing, but putting them all together and making it flow and sound like something Sidious would say will be near impossible to pull off.  It really all depends how long he will be talking.

well there is the force unleashed game where he is voiced by a very good imitator, the lone wars series ect

then just distorts his voice

Author
Time

Well JasonN distorted the voice to the extent that you can't tell who it is anyway, so a good imitation of his voice would be sufficient iny my opinion.

Also posted in my own thread:

One change I've implemented already is to move the Senate scene of Palpatine getting his emergency powers to immediately after Padme and Anakin leave Coruscant. He doesn't say anything about creating an Army because in my crawl, it will explain the army is common knowledge already. At the end of this scene, Mace doesn't say anything about going to Geonosis to help Obi Wan, and I've tweaked Yoda's line:

Mace: It is done then
Yoda: Hmmmmmm
*pause*
Yoda: Visit, Obi wan will, the cloners on Kamino.......and see this army they have created for the republic.

Obviously the reason being to track down the bounty hunter, under the ruse of 'inspecting' the army.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49L3xzkZ3Pc

It's still VERY rough. I've done no work yet to smooth it out or add background music to Yoda's tweaked line. It's just in place ready for when I get to the audio stage.

That was pretty stinkin' good!

brash, that was excellent. It also makes the jedi more proactive instead of a bunch of dopes waiting to get pownd in their ivory towers.

Thanks! Didn't expect that positive a response.

Cuts wise, the editing is almost completed. Once I smooth out the sound (tips appreciated), it'll be time to start learning after effects. I need to do some armour recolours, character removals, superimpose a sidious hologram onto Jango Fett's screen, recolour Sabers and lasers.

And what's more, I don't know how the hell I'm going to do any of it!

HELP!

I'm afraid I can't be of much help Brash, but I like what you're doing with your edit! You're really going radical on AOTC. I'm sure it will be an interesting thing to watch.

I was hoping Ady, JasonN or mrbenja could point me in the right direction.

JasonN did some saber recolours in his edit, as well as removing Yoda in a scene near the end.

mrbenja. If I recall correctly, it was you that made a video of Dooku with a green saber? It was a truly exquisite recolour!

The ambitious side of me wants to recolour all the green sabers blue. The lazy side of me just wants to recolour Dooku's saber :p

Not sure what colour. Yellow, Orange, Purple, Green. So long as it's unorthodox compared to the rest of the Jedi.

As for removing characters. I want to remove Jango from the podium shots on Geonosis, Boba from the doorway of Slave 1 (very brief) Yoda from the aforementioned shot that JasonN also did, and possibly threepio from being in as many shots on tatooine.

Oh, I'm going to be redubbing threepio with an alien voice so that he's a different droid. Will also be redubbing the analysis droids in the deleted scene (possibly in my own modulated voice - Star Wars needs some Welsh accents! :p)

Haha its hard enough understanding my friend who attends newport uni and he started off with posh english accent, now he sounds welsh lmao. My area manager is welsh too lol

I wouldn't mess with changing C3POs voice. It would be very confusing to viewers. I also loved your so called "rough edit". I couldn't even tell that it was edited. Very nice work.

My only advice brash is to make a list of things you want to do with this edit and pursue one until it's done, then cross it off and move onto the next one. If you try to do too much up front, you might get bogged down and overwhelm yourself.

In other words:

Do the jango thing, make the jedi less stupid, and then worry about lightsabers and all that flash.

AOTC's problems stem from characterisations and plotting.

You are on your way to correcting that in a very good way.

Stay on target.

I want green sabers!

Stay on target.

I want new dialogue for 3PO!

Stay on target.

Loosen up!

Arrgh!

Agreed, one thing at a time.  I've done a crazy amount to my edit, but I focused on one thing at a time.  If a sfx trick was needed to complete an edit then  I would teach myself, otherwise I avoided that stuff like the plague, and yet now I'm color correcting.  You'll get there.  That said, if you are actually looking for help, the real question is what are you using right now?  PC, Mac, software, etc.

The real question is: Any more clips from your edit? please? :D

If you are to color correction let me help with it :)

If the SD-DVD version uses soft subs (and if I could track it down from somewhere), then yes, that would probably be ideal to use it for my CC-version of AOTF (because then all that I'd have to color-correct would be the deleted scenes that I used in it and my "phantom Sidious" composites).

brash_stryker: It took me a little over a month of "on-again, off-again" editing to recolor Dooku's lightsaber in EP2. I had previously tried using masks and compositing in both Vegas and After Effects to change the saber's color, but the results were never exactly what I wanted. Ultimately, I selected to recolor the saber by hand, frame-by-frame using a graphics tablet and the software Mirage (the predecessor of TVPaint) - it was definitely time-consuming, but it gave me the best results for my edit.

Having said that, I'd never choose to recolor ALL the Jedi lightsabers blue: all that work would probably drive me up the f***ing wall....  O_O

I just checked, and the subtitles on the theatrical preservation DVD are indeed "soft" subs.

Brash, the more I think about it, the more brilliant your little scene is.  It solves the problem of why the Jedi never question the origins of the army once they have it, it removes Jar Jar's involvement, and thanks to the Jango Fett subplot, it still makes order 66 plausible.

I hope you don't mind, I'm thinking I'm going to include a version of your scene in my edit.  I'm curious though, where did you find the sound clip of yoda saying obi-wan?

Author

 (Edited)

I think I got it in the scene where Yoda is in his hoverchair. Where he says "the council is confident in its decision Obi Wan".

I'm honoured that people think my idea is good enough to use in their own edits :)

As I've said before, my edit is more of a proof of concept than a definitive cut (because there are far more accomplished editors out there who can do a more ambitious edit *cough* Adywan *cough*)
