*Didn't want to start a whole thread for this, and there isn't one anywhere for random thoughts, so anyway, I'll post it here*

This is today's Uncle John calendar entry:

ALL ABOUT C-3PO FROM STAR WARS

• C-3PO (played by Anthony Daniels) has the first line in the first movie (“Did you hear that?”) and the last line in the last one (“Oh no!”).

• Daniels, on getting the part: “I was quite insulted to be offered a role as a robot; I was a serious actor. I wasn’t going to be in some weird American movie as a robot, yet my agent insisted.”

• Kenny Baker (R2-D2), on Daniels: “He’s been such an awkward person over the years. If he just calmed down and socialized with everyone, we could make a fortune touring and making personal appearances. I’ve asked him four times now but the last time he looked down his nose at me like I was a piece of s*#@ and said, ‘I don’t do any of these conventions—go away, little man.’"

That last one sounds like it's from "Bring Back...Star Wars", but I'm sure Mr. Baker has recounted that sad viewpoint many, many times over the years.

Yet here Anthony is, Twittering like mad about how awesome Star Wars in Concert is and how cool it is to talk to fans.  Odd.

Kenny Baker has stated many times that Anthony Daniels goes to every Star Wars convention as long as he isn't there. I read an interview about 10 years ago, he said he went to an award ceremony and saw Anthony Daniels there. As soon as Anthony saw him he left.

Anthony Daniels has never stated why he didn't like Kenny Baker. It was solidified as truth in Bring Back Star Wars when he wouldn't go if Kenny Baker was going to be there. Even Peter Mayhew and Dave Prowse has said they don't get along.

Aren't they a little too old to be fighting like kids? Maybe youthfulness stays with some people for ever.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Yes there is. It's called Star Wars general discussions. Can you people stop posting stuff in here that has NOTHING to do with Adywan's thread?

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Ady - keep an eye on this site - http://www.retrokit.net/79.html - they have 1/72 scale Snowspeeder and Cloud Car kits in the works.  No word on price but at that size, I'm guessing they'll be about the same as the Fine Molds kits run - $30US to $40US, whatever that works out to after conversion.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

sort of...

The far star destroyer should be in front of the underbelly SD. I think.

Is the perspective screwed? YES

Not just that, but the angle of the regular SD compared to the Executor don't match: in the close-up, you can see the dividing line on the Executor underbelly.  Compare that to the regular Star Destroyer - it looks like the Executor is travelling with a list of 20 to 30 degrees!

Wouldn't it be funny to see the Executor bridge and everyone is tilted and trying their best not to fall against the Starboard side windows (that is the left side of the ship, right?)?

Also, the SD on the far right should not be visible in one or the other picture.  If you go by the close up shot, the far right SD would be on the other side of the Executor covered up by the ship.  If you go by the far away shot, the far right SD would be off screen in the close up.

Also also: the underbelly of the SD underneath the Executor could be lit up better, in that it would be lit by the same light source lighting up the underbelly of the Executor.  Now the TOP area of the SD may be covered in shadow, as well as the SD may cast a shadow onto the underbelly of the Executor due to said light source.

On a side note: Ady: is there any way to light up the Executor more (such as the vertical areas underneath the Executor, as seen in the close ups)?

Port is left, starboard is right and stern is the rear of a ship.

The Executor did always look a bit odd to me. I just figured it was the angle of the camera.

i did a quick mockup/render in max.

The SDs are lined up with the executor. so any perspective will there.

IMO it gets more menacing to be like an arrow instead of having the upper surface visible. But i may be wrong so be my guest to correct me :)

That looks beautiful Angel. It is much more scary looking. It's just lights hidden in the blackness of space.

Not exactly, Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels both appeared at NEC Birmingham in England one year, Kenny usually sits next to Warwick Davis though. Felt sorry for Kenny because he had no queue and Anthony had a queue mile and a half long. Mick Foley was there too, was such a great day.........

OK the scale must be way off in this pic if the command tower is supposed to be the same size on both models wouldn't the smaller one nearest the camera be bigger?

& BTW don't mention Henry to me today (mesa no happy irish man today)

Can I just say:

"Correct" does not always (or even often, in movies) equate with "good".

This is why, for example, so many shots get flipped in editing, and - in my opinion - should usually stay that way.

The main thing about these 2 shots that was always the most jarring to me was that the position of the Stardestroyer underneath the 'close-up' of the Executor didn't match it's position in the 'long-shot' which came afterwards.  But since I remember Adywan mentioning this previously, I'm hopeful he's able to do something about that.

Have to say that I prefer to see the Executor's 'tower' detail etc. in that initial 'long-shot' though vaderios.

As far as that Stardestroyer seen in the distance in the 'close-up' shot, I guess it could be one that is 'hidden behind' the Executor in the 'long-shot'....but going by the camera angle in the 'close-up' shot, I reckon it would also work if that Stardestroyer was changed to be coming in the opposite direction instead, to seem like it's the SD seen in the distance on the left of the 'long-shot' shot.  And I'm not entirely sure that the main SD seen in the 'close-up' shot of the Executor is the correct size either.  Too small perhaps, if it's 'tower' size is judged against the 'long-shot' of the Executor?

However, even the Stardestroyers seen in the shots that come before the 'close-up' of the Executor don't seem to match either where their 'height' levels and layout is concerned, so I'm going to be interested to see just how much tweaking Adywan does in the sequence or not.

My own take on all this is that the 'scale' of various things in many shots throughout ESB and ROTJ seem to conflict unfortunately, and that while some things can probably be improved, some others probably can't be.  As well as some of the 'miniature' and 'prop' work, some of the 'compositing' also left a lot to be desired in places as far as getting the scale of things correct....but I can accept the discrepancies as part of the 'charm' of those mainly wonderful old-style special effects done across the OT.

I feel sorry for Adywan though, as some of these 'scaling' issues must be driving a perfectionist like him nuts!  :)

Well i dont have problem with that.

I just showed what could be look if the perspective was correct.

We can always use a slight lower angle of executor so the bridge is visible and perspectively correct. No need for uber detail or movement. Executor can be a 2d element as well.

Can you have artistic license in an edit that fixes most of the errors? :D

I'm not sure what you're asking, or whether you think artistic licence is good or bad...

But as an example of artistic licence, there's a bit in The World Is Not Enough where Bond fires at the bad guy, who's standing behind bullet proof glass. There's a huge (relatively speaking) delay between the firing of the shot and impact of the bullet, during which there is a cut so we see the bullet hit, but I find the sequence very effective, and wouldn't remove that delay no matter how glaring an "error" it is.

Artistic license is always good. But depends the POV.

If you want to fix most of the things then the artistic license is gone but keeping the dramatic license as well.
