I think I like how the words have some color to them, but I would brighten them or do something to help them stand out.  If anything, I would "orange up" the Enterprise to better match it with the orange stream of energy it is within (that could help the blue dish light stand out even more too).  Maybe add some streaks to the underside of the Enterprise to add a slight "warp" effect (may also want to consider making the Enterprise a little bigger too).

Just out of curiosity does, does 6-pass mean 1 VAF + 5 pass or does that mean 1 VAF + 6 passes?

I've never understood if the nomenclature was standardized or not.

1 VAF + 6 passes

Is that how people usually count?  I always figured it was the 1+5 number since CCE shows 6-passes during encoding that way.

I just go by the setting selection as it in the CCE encoder options.  If I select 6 pass, it makes a VIF, and then does 6 passes at 7178 kbps.

So how close are we to re-release?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Life interferes, it happens.

Get your shit together in the real world first.  We've waited this long, a little longer is no big deal at this point.

Due to some sudden and unforeseen events, I've been forced to move some 3000 miles cross country on a moments notice.

So have we now all learned our lesson about killing prostitutes?

I’m not to sure that’s a very appropriate comment at this time. Take care FF, I hope everything sorts itself out sooner rather than later for you.

Well, unless FF actually did kill a prostitute, hopefully it'll give him a chuckle and lighten his mood a bit.  I don't see what's so terribly inappropriate about it.

Anyway, take your time with this, FF - your personal life is far more important than any fan project!

Very sorry to hear the news, FF. Take care of your life - we'll still be here when you get back. Hope things end up well for you.

Will the isolated score still be a feature of this when done or is that scrapped?

It is my favorite thing about the editdroid trilogy.

Also what about the rare documentaries and press books and presskits?

The magazines and etc.

Or were those only features of the mega set that you have since jettisoned?

I can understand the point of not doing the theatrical now that it has been released on dvd, albeit in 5.1 sound lacking the original 2 channel PCM.

I would not know the first thing about adding the laserdisc audio from the 79 theatrical to the new dvd as a custom for myself.

Since the film was not released in 70mm and 6 track during the premiere in 79 i am lead to assume this 5.1 was a remix of the original audio from the 2 channel.  Unless there was a re-release in 70mm and 6 track and i can find no info online of such except your mention of the sit and prosper marathon.

2-6 were released in 70mm and 6 track so their dvd mixes are essentially authentic remixed versions of the 70mm audio on dvd in 5.1.

Apparently there were 70mm prints.

And those collectors film frames similar to the Star Wars 70mm frames had to come from somewhere!

Aha see according to that the 70mm only came out in 1982 as a double feature with wrath of khan, so even if there was a 6 track which there was in 1982 it could not be called the theatrical audio because it was not released in 79 despite the intent to do so.  It was probably a very limited re-release not a nationwide re-release like star wars had and empire and jedi several times.

I would give a lot to see a triple billing of the 70mm of the oot of star wars, especially to see empire in 70mm.

There is probably newspaper advertising material out there somewhere that would prove whether the 70mm played anywhere in 79-80.

If it had played the same venue I later saw Empire at, there would be little doubt in my mind.

no one has ever done scans of the 70mm film frames for star trek 1 as far as i'm aware.

The blu ray release and new dvd they did not bother to go back to the 65mm vista vision opticals and scan them at 8k or higher resolution, but neither has lucas for star wars and probably won't considering that is the oot and not cgi version.

What you do have is someone like Ridley Scott going back to Blade Runner and doing such a scan of the vista vision effects, and it looks phenomenal on blu ray.

65mm =/= VistaVision

Vista Vision is 35mm turned on its side.  65mm is the exact same thing as 70mm, but without an audio track (the negative that's run through the camera is 65mm, the prints that are released add 5mm for audio, which is where we get 70mm).

So 35mm is to VistaVision as 65/70mm is to IMAX.

VistaVision was originally just a widescreen filming format Paramount invented to compete with anamorphic cinematography.  (Note that VistaVision does NOT produce an aspect ratio comparable to anamorphic cinematography, it's closer to 1.85:1 than 2.39:1.)  Paramount and VistaVision lost out to anamorphic lenses.

ILM, when making Star Wars, decided to revive the format for the visual effects shots.  The reason for this was that, on top of the incredibly fine-grained 35mm film stocks then in existence, the VistaVision process was designed to minimize grain even when film stock was much, much grainier than it was in 1976.  Most films at the time (Close Encounters) used 65mm for the same reason, but VistaVision, being that it was 35mm turned on its side, was much cheaper to use than 65mm.

It worked so well that I believe most films with heavy optical effects after that used VistaVision until digital technology replaced optical compositing (this hasn't happened 100% completely yet, but it's damned close).

But Close Encounters and Blade Runner definitely used 65mm for their opticals, not VistaVision, so an 8K scan makes sense.  An 8K scan of 35mm turned on its side seems kind of pointless to me - I'd be happy with the whole of Star Wars, including the opticals, being scanned at 4K.  Which, sadly, doesn't seem likely.
