Since this is one of the years most awaited titles... for me anyway...
i figured it does deserve a thread...

first off... what colour do you think the DVD package will be?
im thinking an off yellow... sorda like a stained and tarnished metal...
just my thoughts anyway..
i dont know any other colour they could make it which would compliment the set better...

any thoughts on this?

I heard it was going to be dark blue.

to me it would of made more sense to make TTT:ee the blue one and ROTK:ee the red one, because those colours are more consistent with the tones of the movie and what we see. Helms deep is very blue toned, and mordor in rotk is very red. ROTK in general had a very warm tone to it while TTT had a very cool tone to it.

to me the colour it could be is blue/dark blue or even white... for the symbol of the white tree.

White would be too awkward a color sitting next to the Red and Green boxes.

I'm thinking the dark blue since it complements the red and green nicely and it represents the peaceful era that is now to dawn on Middle Earth. However I could also see a dark beige with almost gold or copper hues to it. But I prefer the blue.

I heard it's going to be the same blue as Aragorn's armour, which would go nicely with the muted green and red of the other 2 boxes.

I seem to remember learning in art classes that the primaries were red, blue, and yellow. Nothing mixes to make those colors. But blue and yellow mix to make green.

Am I read about this or have I been misled by stupid art teachers?

The stupid art teachers are correct. Red, green and blue are additive primaries; Cyan, yellow and magenta are subtractive primaries. Both systems can be used to produce all the colours of the rainbow, but subtractives require less light to do so.

hrm....
i dont know if im crazy about the blue... just as long as its a very very dark blue... i want it to flow nicely with the others!

It would have to be a dark blue to fit in with the really deep red and green sets that are already out. I don't think you need to worry about ROTK being royal blue or anything.

Gundark, thanks for the lesson. That helps explain a lot. Always wondered why RGB became such a popular color set and people explained it as the "primary" colors despite my protestations.

I can follow Rebel Scumb's box-color-in-relation-to-movie logic. If the next one will be dark blue, I'd agree with him that TTT and ROTK should switch colors. Other than that, I really care more about what's inside the box.

I think the LOTR boxsets have been following the coloured packaging used to promote each film, for example:

the Toybiz Fellowship Of The ring figures were packaged in green, as were the Games Workshop miniatures & calendars & loadsa other cool promo stuff.

again the Toybiz Two Towers figures were packaged in a reddy colour, same with the Games Workshop miniatures again etcetc

& no surprises........

The Return of the King figures were packaged in a nice blue colour, repeat as above :>

anyone check out the onering.net for possible EE scenes in ROTK... its a rather lengthy read... but man do these guys pay attention to shit or what... you'll be amazed at some of the things they picked up....

check it out.. its cool none the less...
