Adywan, you are right about all of that.  That makes total sense.  I just see it in my head and it looks so good, but I wasn't being realistic.  Now that I think about it, I don't know what I was thinking. Can't wait 'til 2010.  This looks better than ANH.

 ...   ..-   -.-.   -.-     .-   ...   ...

Don't forget the apple next time.

And yeah, Ady is right about all that. I know I'm not the most patient person on the forum, but when Ady is coming out with "No! No! No!" it must be that someone just ordered a baloney special.

How about showing a cut scene of Yoda meditating and reacting to Luke's failure at Bespin.

i didnt realise there was cut dagobah material?

It wouldn't be that hard to put in. It would be a great addition IMO.

He reacted that way because he doesn't like the PT music.  I wasn't totally stupid for saying that.  Ive seen alot of other people say that adding new music would be good on other SW sites.

This site should be here to give Ady alot of ideas (good or bad) and let him pick out the good ones.  Not just get shot down like you have no idea what you are talking about.

Of course this site is for ideas, but I think it's clear some of us have no inclination to make the original trilogy anything like the prequels.

And even if one does like all the movies, why the hell would you want to homogenise them all into one style? The original trilogy are very unique movies, they are all different stylistically/aesthetically. They have different designs, very different scores, different overall aesthetics. Why try to break that down? What does that achieve? And don't say it makes them all flow together. They already do that through story and character. There's nothing to be gained by blurring the things that make them distinct, and a lot to be lost.

I understand that D Venal.  But then again I dont.  I get how the music thing wont work, but what about all the other stuff that Ady is doing.  Like enhancing Hoth, Bespin and the Asteroid Chase.  All of those are making the OT more like the PT.  You don't mind that do you?

How about showing a cut scene of Yoda meditating and reacting to Lukes failure at Bespin?

Also, what are the plans of showing Coruscant in the OT?  I heard that it is a possibility.  It would be great to here from Ady on this one.

Oh, Adywan!  Not sure if you're fixing this (though it's not much of a fix, since it's more an idea), but in the scene in which we see R2 and 3P0 bickering on Hoth and then 3P0 reports to Han that no one knows where Luke is, the music kind of just... stops.  Abruptly.  On Youtube, I saw a video in which someone put the whole music cue (from the soundtrack) into the scene, and it actually worked quite well, the music sounded great with that scene.  Any chance of re-inserting that cut bit of music?

If I was to do an edit of the whole saga I wouldn't add PT music to the OT. I would add OT music to the PT. I would replace CGI ships with scale models and I would colour correct the films to look like the pre SE OT.

Of course I have nothing against your ideas but it is absolutely clear that the majority of the members on this site dislike the prequels. I think they have some potential.

I do from time to time get a horrible headache thinking of how to make them as good as the OT.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I wouldn't take out CG ships because those are very realistic now.  I would however get rid of the horrible CG backgrounds and shoot in real locations.  That would probably improve the overall acting to.  I like the PT music however.

If I had my own way I would add cues from the OT to the PT not the other way around.

I'd make the Imperial Cue from ANH the Stormtrooper/Clonetrooper motif so if the films are seen in sequence the blockade runner scenes resonate with the sequences with Clonetrooper action in the PT (it's a nice little motif which was kicked into touch by the Imperial March which shouldn't have been used in the PT until the final moments of ROTS).

I'd have put hints of the Luke and Leia theme into Padme's talk of pregnancy and then not revisited it until we know about their blood ties in ROTJ.

Sticking PT stuff into the OT, if ever done should be done sparingly to make a story point (I don't mind the PT music in ANH:R because the final confrontation between Vader and Obi-Wan is an echo of their PT fight but there aren't that many instances in the OT).

I would love to see some of the missing score of ESB put back if it's possible and if it works, though sometimes the score changes do make sense.

Vader confronting Luke without the scored music is much more powerful than the same scene with the music put back.

Ghost, stop repeating the same thing in each post. We understood you the first time you said it.

What the hell is the point of having a scene of Yoda meditating? It's completely pointless, and would break the pacing of the ending.

I repeated the same thing because no one answered it.

It wouldn't break any pace.  That would add more emotion to Luke's failure.

I don't think Yoda needs to be seen again after Luke departs to save his friends.

Yoda's final scene in EsB as it stands is awesome as is. He watches Luke take off and says his famous line "no there is another"......we don't see him again until ROTJ.

Why break up that perfection with an abrupt reaction shot at some point toward the end of EsB when the story has already moved forward? It's not necessary.

There's no need to tie up every little detail and loose end, that's what GL tried to do with the PT and what many criticize him for.

I hate to pile another sandbag onto your idea Ghost, but that sounds like a change for the sake of change. What's more, how could watching Yoda look glum in a swamp add to the emotional upheaval that occurred at Cloud City?

C3P0: Blasted to pieces

Han Solo: Frozen in carbonite.

Luke: Brutally maimed by the villain now revealed to be his father.

To be honest, I don't think the audience cares about how Yoda feels about the above developments. Not while they are so fresh anyway.

The very best thing I've heard in a long time that highlights this gap is from "Spaced", a brilliant English comedy starring Simon Pegg of "Shaun of the Dead" fame.   Tim Bisley works in a collectibles shop, and an 8 year old wants to buy a Jar Jar doll.  He explodes:

"You are SO blind!  You so do NOT understand!  You weren't there at the beginning!  You don't know how good it was, how important!  This is it for you!  This jumped-up firework display of a toy advert!  People like you make me sick!  What's wrong with you?!"

Lots of Star Wars references like that...  He is so disapointed with TPM that there's a scene where he burns all his cherished SW merch on a funeral pyre in a re-enactment of ROTJ's burning Vader scene.  Very funny show, shame it only lasted 2 seasons.

Where can this Yoda meditation scene be seen?

Well if you were Sylar (from Heroes) then you could easily see it in Ghost's mind with one of your powers :)

I actually think that it's not such a bad idea, but I agree with The Golden Idol that it would break the pacing of the movie (Yoda's been and done in the movie as it is - what we see at the end is the extent of the training he's given Luke through the Saber duel and Luke being unprepared for a certain truth).

I remember that, Spaced was pretty funny. The difference is, it's nothing to do with the problem here, and I was never blinded by the "perfection" of the original movies, either. I've never liked Return of the Jedi, and that has nothing to do with Ewoks. So, nice clip, but inaccurate comparison. I neither hate all modern films nor blindlingly love those I saw when I was a kid, so, you might think you just summed me and others of my generation up, but no, not really.

I think at this point in the creation of ESB:R, we should be naming things that need to be fixed instead of adding to it. Ady isn't going to change the story of this film. The way the film was edited in 1980 was and still is amazing. What is being done now is making this film look better. Ady is doing cosmetic work to the film at this stage. I don't want to summarize all of his hard work in a short paragraph, but I don't think Ady will be adding any new scenes. As a true Star Wars fan he is one of the people that understand that the reason the prequels were so bad was because of how much useless spoon-feeding were present in the films.

I don't like being treated like an idiot when I go to the theater. The PT was like spending the weekend at my grandparents house only to wind up watching Dora The Explorer and Blues Clues with my little cousins.

Adding a useless scene to an already great movie is like buying a Ducati when you can't even drive a motorcycle. It might sound like a good idea but then you have to wonder why you did such a thing.

BTW I love Ducatis. VROOOOM VROOOM!!!!!!!!!

Damn straight. And Plus ESB only has the Imperial March in it about 5 times. The PTs music was good but it wasn't Star Wars.

Let me say this. I love the PT scores.

I think they are excellent pieces of work, and as music goes I would put them up there with Williams work on the OT and his other iconic film work.

I think they are much maligned because there were fewer great moments in the PT for us to assosiate with the music, as well as lots of reuse of musical themes lessening the impact of fine peices ("Duel of the Fates" is a masterpiece, and having it during Anakin's "Easy Rider" moment in AOTC and the Palpy/Yoda cartoon show in ROTS was simply awful). The music is also on an intentionally grander scale, because the films themselves are a grander scale than the OT.

That being said, Adywan adding "Battle of the Heroes" in ANH carried with it emotional resonance because of the purpose of that piece of music (Anakin vs. Obi). But even if Adywan hadn't repeatedly stated there would be no PT music in ESB:R, I still can't think of any point that a PT theme could be added into ESB that would add to the film.
