Version 2 is up. Sorry if I'm clogging up the boards with this. I will post in the other thread too when I'm done with A New Hope. Is this better everyone? I hadn't finished when I posted originally and was fully aware the back was horribly bare. This is what I'm going for across each of the three covers... I'll see what I can do about the repeated At-At stencil if it's still badly noticable each of the three are the same. Enjoy!

And, just to satisfy my inner English-nazi, I would change the "Lovingly..." paragraph to "Lovingly crafted by fan editor Adrian Sayce, The Empire Strikes Back: Revisited combines elements from the 1980 theatrical release and the 2004 DVD Special Edition with hand crafted special effects shots to create a definitive version of the classic film."

Custom covers are da bomb!

Well, English-nazi (sic), your grammatical fascism also needs work. It's "handcrafted" and it has to be "the" definitive version, not "a" definitive version. Oh, and it's English-Nazi, capitalised.

With all the talk about cameo inserts I remember that Lucas appeared as a drawn cameo in the ESB comic adaptation on Cloud City (wearing goggles as I recall) It might be fun to recreate that.

Darth V,

You are correct, sir!  I must hang my head in shame. I switched my "a"s and "the"s. "A definitive version" makes no sense; no sense at all!  :) And those damned double words always throw me.  Single word? Two words? Hyphenated? Aargh!

To revise:

"Lovingly crafted by fan editor Adrian Sayce, The Empire Strikes Back: Revisited combines elements from the 1980 theatrical release and the 2004 DVD Special Edition with handcrafted special effects shots to create the definitive version of a classic film."

Oh, and it's English-Nazi, capitalised.

And it's actually capitalized, not capitalised. ;)

That would be American English-Nazi Capitalized (British English doesn't use Zeds that way).

Actually, you're wrong again. It's either of the two, so there's no mistake. And in the UK the tendency is to use "s" not "z".

And I'm speaking from my good-ol' fashioned American-bred upbringing and it's with a z, damnit! :)  I fully understand the Brits' tendencies to use an s in its place, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.  It's the same with things like "colour."  There's no "u" in there!  It's color.  Deal with it!  So it's you, sir, who are mistaken "about a great many things." <--- in my best Emperor impersonation.

Okay, so I know it's hard to get this across in the printed word, but I am being light-hearted in all this (or is it "lighthearted, or maybe "light hearted"?).  There's differences in English spelling across this marble and I'm fine with it.  Now relax and go enjoy a scone, or some blood pudding, or some crisps or whatever it is you guys eat, and I'll enjoy a nice, thick American cheeseburger and fries! :)

Okay... here's a better revised version of the cover... I have not justified the text (which all comes from the 2004 DVD release) as surprisingly it's a pain in the ass to do! But I'll have a stab when I can be bothered to trudge through it all. Removed DTS logo and made suggested text ammendments. Not finished yet though (yes the logo on the front still needs a bit of work)...

And here's the A New Hope one. NOW... before anyone heaps too much criticism on this one... I'm not totally convinced on it one myself. The colour scheme doesn't quite gel (although it leads from the fronts colours)... thinking I might manipulate the poster a bit to keep it in line with the ESB one above. Ho hum... will sleep on it and see what I make of it tommorrow... (for some reason the upload to picassa messed up the image a bit!)...

That's me done. Enjoy!

Now that's a front cover that I love!  I'm a huge fan of the retro style, and I haven't seen that image before.  The title treatment with the revisited logo in the center is simply superb!  Great work here.

The re-done ESB:R logo looks great as well.  I would be interested in seeing what the new "revisited" part looks like when it's centered in the lower bar, though.

Damn, I like that ANH:R cover....

On another note, when EMPIRE:R is finished, will it be possible to use the 720p version for the complete DL DVD release via an ISO file and ImgBurn, so that rather than the typical MKV or TS file (which would be movie only) menus and extras could be included in one complete package?

I know over at tehp@r@dox they have 720p files that only come out to 4.3gb in size and still look fantastic.  Again, they are movie only, but if one were to put it on a dual layer DVD, that would leave roughly 2 to 4 gigabytes for other things.

Just wondering...

Hi there,

Can Ady, or anyone, answer to that question:

I worked a 1980 film version score edit for ESB (see in the new preservations threads) and I noticed the music on CD wasn't accorded the same way than the music in the film - I can't say it a better way in English, sorry.

Then here's the question: Did they change the speed, the pitch, or what ?

Thanks ;)

And finally... Return Of The Jedi. Hmmm.... it's a shame McQuarrie didn't do any real poster work for Return Of The Jedi as the stuff out there just doesn't seem to be quite as interesting as what I got for the other covers. I simply went for battle-tasticness instead of the artwork we've seen countless times on covers before! Just edited an odd poster I could only find in diminished res. Anyone got a hi-res version of this pic? Front may change if I come across something really special and logo on front my change to original classic type too. Anyway... I'm beat now. Enjoy all...

I suppose that depends on which version of the films you have watched at home.  If you're in a a PAL country, the video and audio of the Star Wars films are sped up and subsequently at a higher pitch.  If you're in a NTSC country, then the audio will be at the correct speed.  The soundtrack releases should match an NTSC release, but will be slower than a PAL release.

I'd use the vintage Times New Roman logo for the front, and a different overall color scheme (it feels too similar to ESB's color scheme).  Other than that, this (and your Star Wars cover) looks fantastic!  I assume you'll be doing the prequels, as well?  (Though we don't know yet if Ady will keep the titles the same or not ... )

And for the ANH cover (and later the others), I'd use the actual special features from the DVD-9 (that is to say, English 5.1 Surround, English & Spanish subtitles, isolated score, "Revisited Fixes & Changes" trivia track, ANH:R trailers, deleted & extended scenes, multi-angle special effects breakdown, and the ESB:R teaser trailer) on the back, instead of listing ones that don't actually exist.

Oh, and ANH:R's runtime is 127 minutes, not 120.

Here is a suggestion for an extra on the DL DVD or whatnot:

would it be possible to include a remastered version of the Boba Fett cartoon from the Holiday Special (as in JUST the cartoon)?

yes yes yes! i was working on one myself, hoping that a few filters and recolouring could improve clarity. only problem i had was the only source i could get was no better than a youtube copy.

where did you get this screenshot from?

it would be neat to re-edit it slightly so the planet is ord mandell (so hans comment in ESB could reference it), and to add a crawl.

one option could be a fan remake, where we can retrace the cartoon. with enough hands it would be surpirisngly easy and talentless. colouring and repainting backgrounds i can handle.

YES! That would be awesome! I also really like the idea of retracing it if possible. It would have superior overall quality plus it could be colored better so Boba Fett would be consistent with the movies. Slight edits would also be nice, the Ord Mandel suggestion would be pretty cool. Same with using some footage from the Droids cartoon. But does he have the same voice in the Droids cartoon?

That A New Hope cover is just amazing, VincentSmalls. Love the changes to The Empire Strikes Back also. You mentioned that the Return of the Jedi cover was from a low-res image, are the other two from high-res images? It would be great to print those out eventually - will you be posting high-res versions when they are finished?
