Well, we are well into October now, and I know many people have traditions of watching certain movies during this time of year to set the mood for the season. So, what films are on your yearly Halloween film list?
My list is:
The Evil Dead
Evil Dead II (if I don't have time to watch the whole trilogy, I try not miss this one)
Army of Darkness
Alien
Ghost Busters 1 and 2
The Last Man on Earth
As you can see, I am not really into horror films.

I usually try to watch something new, but I have been re-watching the Universal monster movies from the 30's and 40's. Great movies if anyone is wondering. Some of my "must watch" monster classics are:

And I picked up a copy of Monster Squad a year or two ago. I'm a little nervous about watching it and realizing that not only is it not great... but that it's actually terrible.
I am also not a big fan of the Horror genre, but I enjoy Evil Dead. I never really thought about them as Halloween movies, though.

That was a great weekend. My wife threatened to leave me if I ever made her watch another Dracula movie, but it was a great weekened regardless.

The Monster Squad is definitely a sub-par movie, but it has certain things worth watching. Throughout all the monster movies, we always hear what can kill them, but nobody ever tries another way. Well, thanks to TMS, we find out what happens when you shove a stick of dynamite down a Wolf Man's pants. He'll blow the fuck up, but he's going to fully regenerate as if nothing ever happened. And Gillman never looked more badass.

I'm thinking of doing an all Lovecraft Halloween weekend.
There are two direct-to-DVD adaptions of "The Shadow over Innsmouth" (named "Dagon" and "Cthulhu.")
The silent film version of "Call of Cthulhu"
"Re-Animator"
"In the Mouth of Madness" is kind of a Lovecraft pastiche, so I might go with it too.
What else am I missing?
I always try to go through some of the classic Universals, and vow to make it all the way through the Legacy Collections-but never can. (They get sooo bad towards the end!!) Also a big hammer fan.

I watched at least one horror movie a day and it was awesome.

Watched Trick 'r treat. I was expecting certain actors to be in it more than they were but overall I enjoyed it. I could easily see them doing a whole series of these movies, mix a handful of nutty tales with crossovers, maybe set each one in a different town.
Might have to watch it again and see if i can spot any more crossovers...It would be a cool novelty to see the stories play out in split scene in proper chronological order.
Didn't really get a chance to watch anything else.
I'm not a fan of horror, but the local college was showing Nosferatu with a live orchestra last night, so I decided to go.

that sounds interesting. Watching a silent movie with a live orchestra. I'd like to do that with multiple silent movies. What was it like?
It was really good. I got to talk to the orchestra for a while afterwards, and they were really nice people. My only gripe, I suppose, is that they create their own, original scores for the movies they accompany (that are certainly good), and, while there are a lot of strings, it also contains some modern instruments like electric guitars, heavy percussion, and synthesizers that feel a bit out of place, in my opinion. I have to say it was quite a shock. The first act of the film was nearly all violins, and it felt very much like being in the 1920s. But once the count showed up, there was suddenly electric guitar, and it was very jarring. So, to sum up, I thought they were great, and I hope they can continue doing what they're doing, but I would have preferred a more "traditional" score.
On the film side, though, it was a restored 35mm projection, and it looked fantastic! Obviously it was full of scratches and deterioration, but the level of detail was amazing. I'd never seen a film so old... on film in a theatre, and it was certainly an experience on the visual side. I'd love to see more.

Seeing classic film in a theater is unbelievable-and silents take on a whole new life.
I saw The Mummy (1932) and Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman in a theater this Halloween.

The Monster Squad is great, only "Halloween" movie I watched...and I still love it for exactly the same reason..the childhood feeling haha

Finally saw Brides of Dracula. It's a bit too simple, (and has the painfully obvious fake bat effect.) but has Cushing as Van Helsing and Fisher behind the camera-so what's not to like? Probably third or fourth best in the Hammer Dracula series behind Horror and Prince of Darkness.
And I still couldn't get through Ghost of Frankenstein and the later ones in the Universal Frankenstein series.
The Hammer version of The Mummy is extremely underrated like their later Hound of the Baskervilles.
