Wolfgang Petersen's "Das Boot", doesn't really qualify. It was a TV production to begin with and it will be released in it's original form on DVD. You should also remove StarWars Episode I & II , as far as I understood your post is supposed to list films that were not made by Lucas.

half of these movies have been made available in their "FULL" versions though...

second off i wouldnt be bothered if Lucas made a couple small changes to the movie.... but we're talking about a lot more than 1 minute of footage restored to the film or Sound effects edited....
funny that you had to actually post a list to let people know that these movies had changes made to them... looks like no one noticed them!

Star Wars on the other hand....

My God, jimbo. Either you know too much or you have way too much time on your hands. Where the hell did you come across that list?

Home Theater Forum.com. And Luke many of the changes to those movies in the list are big ones.

Why do directors do this? Why can't they just keep the movies the same as they were when the were first released? I believe that movies should be left alone and NEVER tampered with after they hit theaters. Why can't directors think of the fans instead of themselves?

They have the right to do whatever they want to there movies and release whatever version they want. Only if its the filmmaker making the change. I have a problem if studio changes a movie.

and as i said... most of them have already been released on DVD in their full untampered versions... and second i dont think any of those meet the changes that were made to the SW trilogy... NEVER!

The movies on the list are movies that have never been on DVD in there original form. Never have and maybe never will. James Camerons Aliens was first released on DVD as a Special Edtion only release it took four years to come out in original form on the Quadrilogy. I thought that the enhanced animation on the Lion King really made the movie come alive. I didn't like the censorship in Who Framed Roger Rabbit but only an idiot would deny themselves a movie as great as Who Frammed Roger Rabbit over a couple missing frames. I don't know about you but I never watch a movie frame by frame. I also hated Fantasias censorship. This the studio not the filmmakers altering a movie which I hate.

Additions to list

American Graffetti
Alterations - digitally enhanced sky

Indiana Jones Trilogy
Alerations - Production equitment and set removal.

shouldnt those go under the thread labeled... alterations made to movies which had no effect on the apparent storyline, characters and or entire film??
just a suggestion..

Yes but the Special Editions were made by the original filmmaker. I have never heard anyone involved in the original trilogy bad mouth the Special Editions. I only have a problem if the studio censors a movie like what is being done with Fantasia. What pisses me off more then anything is that Disney labled the DVD original uncut. How dare Disney lie like that. It is a waste and a disgrass to the memory of Walt Disney.

Not all changes are bad. 1776 is a good example. The 25 minutes of footage restored althought not in the orginal theatrical release were in the orginal Broadway Musical. So in a way what was seen in the theaters was not the story in its orginal form but what was released on DVD is. And unlike Stars Wars the scenes improve the movie. Some of the scenes were taken out for stupid reasons. For example, a whole musical number was removed because President Nixon didn't like it. He felt it cast Republicans in a bad light
You see the song had those in congress opposed to declaring independence singing "To the RIGHT never to the left always to the Right forever to Right!" I understand how this could upset Nixon but should a scene from a movie about American indepence be removed because the President doesn't like it? I think not. This scene and others like it should have stayed in the orginal theatrical release and I sm happy that they have been put back in. The OT however is a different story.

1776 (Hunt, 1972)

This is a restoration of the original roadshow print, not a bastardisation of the original theatrical version. Ditto Bedknobs and Broomsticks. These shouldn't count.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Restored footage shouldn't count. Tweaked effects, added scenes, etc., are a different ball of wax. I've said it before...

almost how when Lucas decided to release the Star Wars trilogy he called it the Star Wars trilogy... not the SE... so in a way he was kinda lying to us... and it wasnt obvious which version because numerous websites had to double check on that...
whats even worse is that they'll prolly call it the Star Wars trilogy on the box....

Fucking Bullshit

Lucas did not label them originals did he. The Special Editions are the Star Wars trilogy. There is no false advertising. What Disney did to Fantasia is totally different. Censoring a movie without the permission of the original filmmakers and then labeling in original uncut is blasphemous. Completly blasphamous. Not labling is totally different then false labling.

wait a minute..

Lucas didnt say the originals.. your right.. but i didnt say that either... how bout u reread before you go into a hissy fit!

I said Lucas said the Star Wars trilogy is being release... however he's giving us the Star Wars trilogy yes... but the SE!!!!!!
if he called them that when he released them in the theater then he should call them that when they are on DVD... that my friend would be misleading the customer... especially someone who isnt that big into the Star Wars phenominon like us...

By him calling the SE's the Star Wars Trilogy is bullshit...
look at the LD and VHS releases of the SE's... did they say Star Wars trilogy.... NO!
they said star wars trilogy : special edition!

SO LUCAS IS FALSE LABELING!!

maybe you should ask Irvin Kershner that or how bout Richard Marquand?
What makes Lucas so special?

I have never heard either of them badmouthing the Special Edtion. Hell as soon as I do I will agree with you they should be released. Still I will always like the Special Edtions more. They made these great movies so much better.
