Picture problems

This is for everyone to see, though Jay is already either partially or totally aware of the problems. ;)

- Some pictures are not working and others are a bit broken. Vaderios posted an Imageshack link that only partially shows, as we can't scroll to the right to see the rest. It just gets cut off. And all of his old pictures are invisible.
- Some people who don't use avatars (RoccondilRinon, for example) have long white bars appearing in the space where an avatar would go.
- All of our avatars are slightly blurry now. I tried rubbing my eyes, but no dice! Haha.

I'm sure these are easy to fix. Glad to hear we'll be able to shut off avatars on the topics pages too, cuz I find it looks quite cluttered, especially with the avatar issues. Sorry, just not a fan of this new feature.

The reason for this is because the editor allowed a style tag to sneak through. I updated the skin to fix current posts and I'll change the editor's settings so that it won't happen again.

Thanks for investigating the problem Jay.

I have gone through all the wonky images and switched off styles so they now sit without overlapping, I've asked if anyone spots any I missed to bring them to my attention.

Obviously I will not be making the same mistake again.

The improvements are great, there still seems to be a few problems with some users images but not being those users I have no idea what the cause or causes may be.

Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news but I've been trying to keep my posted images as small as necessary to get the point across (oversized images can break the flow of the thread and right clicking means that users can see the full sized image if they want a better view) but for the last few days whenever I try to reduce the in forum size of an image it posts the full sized version anyway.

That's probably because I severely restricted the editor's capabilities in an attempt to get all these layout issues under control. The editor's settings were way too liberal before (remember those floating image problems?).

I'm toying with the idea of removing the image button from the editor entirely and handling images automatically. Basically, if a user pastes a link to an image into the editor, it would be displayed in the post as a thumbnail (the browser would download the full image and I'd simply resize it with CSS) that would open the full size version when clicked. This would solve the large image formatting problem as well as prevent posts with multiple large images from taking up huge amounts of space.

That would cut my posting woes down too, most of the time I'm posting here I'm trying to do half a dozen things at once so trying to do mental arithmetic while posting images usually wears down my multi-tasking circuits.

That would be a very welcome feature.

Thanks again Jay.
