Lucas tinkering borders on obsessive, none of his films on dvd are the theatrical versions except for the indy trilogy which had minor things done to them, willow or howard the duck, tucker the man and his dream, or more american graffiti.

But the young indy chronicles were altered for dvd just like they were on vhs, graffiti was altered, thx 1138 was altered, star wars most definitely was altered, even the prequels were altered.

Episode II and III theatrical releases only exist as bootlegs of the theater release.

Phantom menace theatrical was available on letterbox vhs and japan laserdisc but never on dvd.

Hell Lucas could not even keep his hands off the deleted scenes that were reinstated for star wars special edition, taking out red leaders remembrance of luke's father.  It is still in the novelizations and the radio drama.  Which were considered canon all the way up to until the prequels were started production and then along the way taken out of the canon. Things like Obi Wan Kenobi being Owen Lars Brother for instance were part of the real star wars backstory and thrown out the window when lucas wrote clones.

I find it almost insane to have to change the oot to fit the prequels after the fact and rewrite the saga canon because someone was too lazy to do their homework.

Now everything we were told about Anakin in the oot was just a fabrication by Obi Wan.  Anakin never was a great pilot, never was a good friend.  He never was strong in the force he just had a high midichlorian count, lol.

He was such a strong jedi he could'nt do three backflips over kenobi when kenobi had the high ground, and lost all his limbs but one in a single go with obi wan's lightsaber.

Though the prequels are not really the true story of the oot vader and anakin dual character, they are almost written by an outside unreliable narrator.  You would never think they were written by the same person as the oot, unless he wanted to look dumb and contradict everything he ever wrote.
