Yeah, I agree.
But I'm FAR from able to do a 2D to 3D convertion of an entire movie.
I think I can do nice 3D frames, but I don't think a "one 2D picture to depth map" converter ever exits. The program I talked about generate Depth map out of 2 different 2D pictures (of course...) but I think it don't do that from a single 2D picture. It is said that it "generate depth map from a pair of 2D pictures" and it that it "create depth map from a single 2D picture", but it appears that "create" does not mean "generate" from the point of view of the creators of the program...: it only makes a greyscale version of the picture, which is of course not a depth map, at all...
I'll continue my search.
Episode 5 DUSTY version framing is on it's way.
That GIF is nice. You can see where it's stretched a bit, but overall, pretty convincing!
Oh, and I decided to get the Dusty Part 1 DVD yesterday. Watched [much of] it last night. Looks/sounds great! I haven't compared it to the test version (there's a collector's item!), but I'm sure the difference is noticeable, especially to you, TMBTM.
P.S. Since Adywan did the Jabba/Han scene as a 3D bonus on the DVD-9, you should ask him how he did it.

Oh, I did not see it. I only have the DVD5.
He probably has played with an after effect pixel tracker to make depth map following the shape of the characters... but I don't know, just a though. I'll ask him. Thanks. :)
Here's something I've been wondering.
If someone were to take a video clip, produce a 3D effect for each frame (like you've done TMBTM), and then slap all the frames into a video editing program, would it create the illusion of a 3D video without the need for any 3D glasses?
Of course, to keep the same length, the final framerate would have to be double the starting framerate.
Does that make sense to anyone other than me?
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I understand. Maybe it would be fun for a couple of seconds. But to an entire movie I don't know. Headache is not far! And I'm not sure of the result anyway.
Maybe a test would be fun. Maybe not doing a "second eye" picture for each frame BUT applying directely the effect on the frames, once right/once left eye etc...
Episode 4 and 5 Dusty version, done.
Episode 6 should be finished next week.
The work on Star Wars 30's serial edition, DUSTY version PART 2 (the OT) is now finished!
All I need now is to make the mono mix and the new DVD menu. I think it could be avalaible next week end.
Here's some shots from ROTJ for now:
My Star Wars 30's serial edition is now complete. I have finished the DUSTY version

I thanks Boon23 and Ghostcut from fanedit.org who provided great technical help at the very begining of this project, because it was my first fanedit and it was a long learning process.
I, of course, thanks Ripplin for this GREAT work in correcting my bad english on the dialogue cards,
everyone here and at fanedit.org who sent feedback on this work.
I can't believe it's done. Ten months or so...
Rapidshare links for the DVD can be found at http://linktalk.ihiphop.com/forums/
Divx version soon to come.
Torrent probably this week end.
Congrats! :D Hard to believe this was your first edit. You've really entered into this art form with a bang!
Torrent for DUSTY version part 2, SL DVD, can be found on demonoid.com
Hope you'll enjoy it.
PS: thanks Ripplin :)
Just a reminder that rapidshare links for the Divx versions can now be found (as well as the DVD ones) on Linktalk. (or PM me).

Torrents for the DVD versions are still alive on demonoid.
You can also rate Dusty part2 on fanedit.org!

I dunno of any mirrors, but they've always been available through fanedit.org.
I'm kind of annoyed with myself... think I lost the PT edition somewhere. :-( I hope I find it, would be very glad to watch this unique project again.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
PMs sent. :)

Hi-Def scratches and grain? Haha. ;)
Thanks negative 1.
Now I'm working on a Grindhouse Star Wars edit. Like I did with JAWS the sharksploitation edit.
I'm Using Puggo Grande as a basis. Lost scenes will be back in the movie (exept the shitty black and white first one, with luke and the "Wall-E/Johnny 5" droid)
Ooo, you've actually started to work on it? Great! I liked the Jaws edit (except for some of the music...) and look forward to this one. Should be a lot of fun. :)

Yeah I started to work on it. There's a thread at the FE.org forum. But I did not post much for now, the goal is to make a fun movie so I don't want every fun idea to be spoiled too much.
"The War of the Stars" is the working title for now.
I don't think there will be much 70's disco, funk, rock music this time! It worked (for me) on JAWS but it will be a little too out of place for Star Wars I believe.
I'd really like to replace most of Williams score by Gustav Holts's album "the planetes" (looks like Williams took all his ideas for Star Wars from this trulely great piece of classical music). The music "Mars, the bringer of war" is so Star Warsish that it needs to be in this edit though. It's also VERY dark and will contrast with the sillyness of the edit. Like if it was directed by someone who wanted to make a serious movie but failed on every detail. At least that the way I see it for now.
I'm glad you're not giving much away. Surprises are nice. I love "Mars, the Bringer of War" and yes, I think it would be a good fit. :) Any Meco? Heh.

Meco... I have 12 or 15 minutes of disco Star Wars. Maybe I can use it somewhere (cantina maybe, I don't know). But the constant drum and bass make it difficult to make smooth transition.
