I agree, SSWR (sorry, your name is so long!). Introducing Luke in such a mundane way is going to undermine the pacing and structure of the movie, and totally ruin what is a pretty decent entrance at Jabba's Palace.

And usually when movie is edited about, you can see it a mile away. Anyone seen Hannibal recently? It's horrendously re-edited and totally destroys the original structure and introduction of Gary Oldman's character. He has several scenes where his face is hidden before he's finally revealed when Clarice visits him, but they ruined it by editing a later scene to be a prologue and you just see him full on. Not one of Ridley Scott's finest moments.

Legend is another one where the US version destroys the "big reveal". In the European and Directors versions Tim Curry is not actually revealed until 3/4 of the way into the movie, the rest of the time he's hidden, and his reveal coming out of the mirror is GIANT. But the US version just shows him in the first scene. Ridley Scott again.

Ridley Scott seems to have almost all his movies re-edited against his will, like a running gag. Blade Runner, the studio added that voiceover that both Scott and Harrison Ford hated (and it shows, Ford deliberately did it as badly as he could, hoping to get it cut), and Scott's intended cut didn't get to happen until the Final Cut a couple of years ago.

Same with Kingdom of Heaven, Scott's director's cut version is something like 45 minutes longer than the threatrical one that the studio had him release, and apparently (I've seen neither) the threatrical version is a very poor film, and Scott's version was either very good or downright excellent, depending on the person asked.

I've seen both. The theatrical is too short. The director's cut a tad too long. But of the two, the director's cut fleshes out the character's more and adds subtle character moments that deepen the film. And the fx work by Moving Picture Company is top notch. Excellente. You can watch the film and go "where are the fx?". Exactly.

Venal, nice to see you also like Bottin's work. I've enjoyed all of his work with Dante. Their segment on the Twilight Zone film was the best one. I still get a laugh from Bottin's and ILM's work on Innerspace.

Sounds like a good idea, although would we put ALL matte painting stuff in there, or still post SW matte stuff on the other threads?

lol I know I know my name is way too long...I regreted it the moment I made my first post! :D

*Hopefully* we can find a way to make this resctructuring work to where it seems like it was meant to be this way...and if making a new entrance for Luke on Dagobah doesn't work...well...I'll probably be fine with the original way...even though it's certainly flawed! :D

Yes i do! :D

I love the sand being disturbed underneath the sail barge!

What do you guys think about having the sand being disturbed the whole time...to kind of achieve a hovering effect? or is that too much?

the source material is 1080p

Is it? I wasn't aware there had been any broadcasts of the SW movies above 1080i.

And I know for a fact Sky HD have never shown any movies in 1080p.

The German PremierHD Star Wars saga were all transmitted in 1080p

Can you provide me a source to confirm that? Because I know for a fact that no Sky channels have ever broadcast 1080p. 1080i, yes, not 1080p. Premiere HD is one of our channels under Sky DE and I have never heard of it broadcasting in 1080p.

I also think it looks terrific. Well done, Angel. But apart from it being difficult to achieve through the entire sequence, I also would argue that there is no reason the barge would disturb the sand. There are no apparent "thrusters" which would create such a disturbance. The Tatooine transports all seem to hover through some anti-gravity technology, repulsor technology, rather than actually physical thrust engines.

But it looks excellent!

And as much as the sand is a bit on the lemon side for me, I do think it looks fresh and unusual.

The sand is put there only for that shot. to show that the bairge had some interaction with the sand than just stays there and to add depth :). I also added something that nobody seems to notice (not your fault its very subtle), is that i add sand particles to the camera because of the flyby of the second boat just a sec before ;)

On an other note here some more errors for 005's list.

First to replace the mirror shot of this.

Andi hope ady will do his magic as he did in the holo table and vader's helmet here:

Your quite right Darth Venal. Sky HD broadcasts in 720p maximum rez to date. But the HD 1080p german broadcast editions may still be avalible on the newsgroups/a few torrent sites. Maybees, perhaps.

SEs only. They weigh in around 16Gig each flick. Takes abit of searching.

Oh I'm not really looking for them, I was wondering where Ady got the info that they were 1080p. Premiere HD in Germany is owned by Sky, too, and as far as I'm aware they only ever broadcast 1080i max. In fact, I'm assured by Anthony in HD (hehe, he'll kill me) that the HD boxes can't even handle 1080p, across the board with Sky, so...

Indeed you are powerful as the Adywan has foreseen.

I love that shot(except for the billowing sand). :p

But you probably should make the pit more visible like in the original or more as Venal suggested.

Great job though. Keep it up. :)

It might give definition to the pit by mapping in a scaled down rocky structure (like a miniature version of meteor craters like this one in Arizona : Meteor Crater ).

Whoa. Imagine that thing with tenticles and teeth (and maybe even a beak). Now that would be something that does "sound bad".

Seeing as Lucas gave the Sarlacc Pit a sex change, I think I'm going to apply that across the board. Every shaft in that movie is getting a gender makeover.

Wanna know how the Emperor dies? That's right, a giant fucking beak is waiting down that shaft. Let me throw something together...

lol.

The SE Sarlacc looks like something Giger would throw in the bin for being too out there.

(ON BE THE SWISS ACCENT) : "A lady's front bottom with teeth, with a trouser-snake tongue with a beak? Nah... "

Talk about gilding the willy :-D

You've done well, Angel ! And now I sense you wish to continue your search for the ultimate Star wars movie.

By now you must know that you can never be turned from Adywans Side.

Everything is proceeding as the forum users have foreseen :p

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a more serious note, is there good Rancor puppet out there one can buy and use on the movie?

Who knows, Adywan might replace that whole cave.

And...should the Sarlacc be less pinkish?

Star wars: Revisited. is now on facebook :)

No idea why but i think ROTJ's rancor looks more good in some cases from that Rancor

maybe its cinematography?

It'd be nice if we didn't have that ridiculous forest-engulfing explosion when we plainly see that han only runs metres away for cover :p
