My reasoning for vanishing is that they are prepared for death.... Qui-Gon wasn't prepared... Didn't see his death coming..... Obi wan did... Let Vader take him out..... Yoda did.... He vanished..... Vader didn't....and that's complicated but not so much. You can easily say that he only intended to save his son, and didn't think he would wind up dying himself.

But if that's the case, why was Vader apparently surprised when Obi vanished in "Star Wars"?

Because that's the first time he's personally seen it. Think about it. Who vanished before his eyes?

Heck, they change multiple times in the same film, especially on the 2004 DVDs.  I like Adywan's approach of redoing every saber ever.  Sure its time consuming, but by golly, its continuity!

I vanished before his eyes.  Sure, he was 10, but I was with him in TPM, and then....where did I go?

I know...you've let us all down! :P

On Mustafar you could have been there saying:

'There's the hotshot young pilot I once mentored, choking the ex-queen of Naboo and look over there - volcanoes are erupting. And there's Obi-Wan Kenobi walking down a ramp and shouting.'

Father, Husband, Nerd (of Batman and Star Wars mainly)

You know, in the 80's you could have found a great job narrating movie based records for kids. =)

But dont you suppose that if it was a common occurance, in Annikin;s 13+ years as a Jedi, he would have heard or learned that Jedi vanish when they die.

The lightsabers in ROTS are my favorite. I think they all should look like that.

But the characters in TPM are your favorite.  Don't try to deny it.

Qui-Gon might be my favorite. Or Darth Maul. Can't decide.

Those guys got nothing on me. Qui-Gon only explains things that need explaining, and Maul barely says a word.

Only IF it was common. However, nothing I'm saying is canon. It's never been explained, just saying how I can rationalize the idea. And the way I do that is see how the other Jedi deaths were different from the ones who vanished.

Maybe it wasn't common. Maybe seeing the spirit of a Jedi wasn't common either. What if, Yoda's last lesson to Obiwan was how to not only talk amongst the dead, but how to prepare for death.

We shouldn't have to "rationalize the idea", it should have been explained or kept consistant!  Darn you, Lucas, why couldn't you make Qui-Gon disappear?!

He said at the time that it was deliberate decision so I assume that Neeson's reluctance to return complicated his grand plan, just as DiCaprio's reluctance to join on did.

Assuming there was a grand plan.

I find it hard to believe that Jar-Jar wasn't going to play a greater role in the series until his near universal unpopularity forced Lucas to ditch him.

There are so many circles to square in the PT but that's part of the fun, there's the challenge.

If Jar-Jar could be made to work with re-dubbing it might be worth replacing Threepio with the new improved version.

In some ways spreading Jar-Jar about may be more radical than taking him out.

Bringing back the rearranging of the ending sequence of RotS.  This is from the "'Explanations' of Vader" thread on SW General:

Wow, that's not the best makeup job, and why on earth is he so old 20 years before ANH?!  Here's a picture of Peter Cushing in 1957's The Curse of Frankenstein.

He looks great!  Certainly not ancient like RotS Tarkin.  Maybe it didn't take 20 years to build the new Death Star, maybe the movie should have ended with the construction just like has been suggested!  Perhaps that is what was meant all along?

Oh, trust me on this: there was NO grand plan. There was barely a sketch, let alone a master story arc to cover three movies.

Basically, Lucas knew how the story began with Obi-Wan(but then it was Qui-Gon at the last minute) finding Anakin and how it ended with Mannakin getting the helmet put on. That's why so much of the prequels ends up as almost inconsequential to the overall story.

No, no. No yellow notepad full of story outlines for this one. Not at all.

As I said over on the other thread they should have cast an actor to play the role (not that Wayne isn't an actor, he was amazing in Farscape but he wasn't playing a role he was just wandering around in an unrealistic mask in the background).

I don't mind him looking a bit older than Peter would have done back then but they should have written a role for him to play or left him out altogether.

If anything it was a worse fan dis-service than Fett in anything other than ESB.

Peter was one of the things that made ANH work and to reduce Tarkin to someone dawdling around that doesn't even look like him was a sick joke.

Bill Nighy as Admiral Tarkin leading the Republican fleet during the Battle Of Coruscant would have been great.

That's possibly even too ambitious an idea for me play with.

I really liked Dave Elsey's makeup work on Farscape, but his makeup work for Tarkin looked just like that: makeup work.

But still not as bad as stoned Yoda from the TPM council scenes. Worse than felix the cross-eyed lion.

"High are you master jedi?"

"stoned I am. wasted my head it is"

Random thought:  Forgive me if someone has already thought of this, but we should somehow put together a contest to see who can create the best re-write of the PT scripts.

Here you go buddy. This should be really easy knowing he doesn't speak or really move much.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Awesome black and white colors there ESF :O !!!

Back to ROTS again i tried to give a more OT look to vader's mask based on publicity photos of ROTJ reveal mask props.

It was a bit tough because i havent many sources for that. And i like th concept that The emperor gave vader even more limited view. Whoever has more pics from revealed mask  let me know.

Also I tried to tone ut the mask...as mask :)

I love the creepy darker background tho.
