Watch what you say about my buddy.  He is nearly as observant as me, but misunderstood.  I actually blame myself - I should have told everyone more about what he was doing.  You'll notice that I told everyone about R2 saving the ship, and everyone LOVES him.

It's because of you commenting about his birth that we're in this mess in the first place...

Man, why did they kill him off? Would that not been amazing dramatic moment. If Qui-gon left the republic, what would that do to Obi-wan's mind! Dang you, Lucas! Wasted opportunity!

Well, Lucas is lucky he did kill off Qui-Gon, because there is no way Liam Neeson would have come back. He was pretty damn vocal about how much he hated the way Lucas made The Phantom Menace and that's why he declined to appear as Qui-Gon's ghost and we ended up with the Force ghost thing being slipped in so inadequately at the end of Episode III.

Being that this is a radical redux thread and all, would it be conceivable to replace Dooku with Qui Jon?  Qui gets wounded by Maul, and using scenes in TPM and maybe ROB ROY to edit him over Chris Lee's shots.  Again, I know it would be near impossible.... but an idea none the less.

Just thinking about how dramatic it would be to have Obi Wan fighting his old master on the seperatist ship in ROTS and Anakin lopping Qui Jon's head off instead of Dookula's.

Personally I think the nearest we can get to what you are looking for is to try a nudge Dooku into being an extension of Qui-Gon (still a Jedi, still thinking he's doing the right thing to save the galaxy from the Sith but going against the council and the Republic to do it).

The problem with using Neeson's other films to continue the character (beyond the obvious technical problems) is that those roles are very different from Qui-Gon.

There isn't enough for him to do in TPM as it is so trying to make a Frankenstein collage out of footage from other films and getting them to match up is possibly doable for a few Force ghost scenes but to extend it further I can't see it working but I'd love to see someone try it and prove me wrong.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured... thinking about it a few minutes after posting, calling any sort of editing Frankensteinish would be kind.  <:)

You can't honestly expect them to show something like a vote from a Senate that big?

Actually that's exactly the kind of thing we have come to expect from Lucas LOL.

Well I don't know about just a vote on it's own being shown, but if the sequence consisted of all the senator's pods going up, them voting, and then showing their pods landing back in place, without cuts. Every single pod, of course.

Then I expect Lucas would have leapt at any chacne to cram it in the film.

"Now this is senate voting!"

Nothing pissed me off more in ROTS than when Jimmy Smits walks into the Senate and asks Padme what is going on.  Hello?  That's my job!

The prequels have little story as it is. Removing a whole character would not only be difficult (and I second Angel's question of whether you know how you'd go about removing him as an element) but would probably mess up the story.

A far more realistic undertaking would be a redub, so that we might actually start to like his character.

I think Jar-Jar should be more like 3-PO was in the OT. He needs to be smart and still not liked by the other characters. Redub him with an english accent. Hell the characters hated threepio but we all loved him.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I never thought losing Jar-Jar was the solution... Making him a stronger character is the solution in my opinion. When I saw the movie the first time, and I saw Jar-Jar the first time, I was in awe.... He was great visually......Then he spoke...

I'm all for a redub if it can be done well. I'm for alien languages if it can be done well. For my own interests I just simply replaced english for spanish. I don't speak spanish well, but I thought Jar-jar didn't speak english well, and in it's own way would have to be garbled spanish.. So i settled with that. But ideally, a redub would be amazing... Again, if it could be done well.

Also, on the voting in the senate is stupid issue... I actually get that. I mean think about it... Palpatine could not motion that he be elected chancellor, and he also couldn't make a vote of no confidence personally... it looks too suspicious. But once the motions were made in any of the senate scenes, all palpatine had to do was use his sith powers to lean the senate towards those motions. And he apparently was powerful enough because Dooku spells out that the senate is being controlled by a sith lord... So, while I do think Lucas made some huge mistakes, I don't believe this is one of them. Just my 10 cents.

I really like the idea of making Dooku a worthy successor to Qui-Gon in the "maverick-jedi" field.

Don't make him a sith. make him a jedi dude who's figured crap out about the sith in the republic, he kidnaps the chancellor/sidious hoping to end the war and expose him, and then off with his head.

On another website, I participated in a thread where a bloke was following the linear format where we didn't return to a planet. Basically, the planet was just blockaded at the start. The film begins in space with the TF ship in pursuit of the Queen's ship. They later go back to Naboo at the end and that's when we see the invasion and end ground battle.

About the vote in TPM, we didn't see the actual vote, we just saw Amidala calling for a vote, and the other Senators agreed. The vote itself took place when Amidala was on her way back to Naboo (she discusses the nominees for the position of Supreme Chancellor with Palpatine before she decides to leave, and congratulates Palpatine with his election after the battle of Naboo).

Concerning Qui-Gon: I thought Liam Neeson was one of the best things about TPM. As much as I would like it, I just don't think it's possible to put him in AOTC and ROTS. He could appear as a ghost in ROTS, but I think it would still feel tacked on. I'm all for making Qui-Gon's body disappear when he dies in Obi-Wan's arms. The explanation for why some Jedi disappear when they die and others don't, could be their state of mind. Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda and even Anakin were at peace when they died. The Jedi dying AOTC or ROTS didn't die like that, they died violent and sudden deaths.

i always felt it should be that way... It actually makes a lot more sense than him siding with palpatine... Why would he tell Obiwan that the senate is being controlled.... Seriously, Lucas DID NOT think... ugh

Now, I'm not going to crap on this idea. It's bold and ambitious. And it is "radical". However, it would be hellish work.

My reasoning for vanishing is that they are prepared for death.... Qui-Gon wasn't prepared... Didn't see his death coming..... Obi wan did... Let Vader take him out..... Yoda did.... He vanished..... Vader didn't....and that's complicated but not so much. You can easily say that he only intended to save his son, and didn't think he would wind up dying himself.

What if instead of Qui-gon, we have Dooku the whole way? Redub all of Qui-gon's lines, etc. Change Qui-gon's head to Dooku's, and maybe cut a few Qui-gon moments.

That looks pretty cool. Geonosis has had a lot of concepts drawn up for it, making it a dark blue sort of colour, the yellow, Tatooine style, but I think the dark red would be best. It would't be a radical change, but just to make it more foreboding without overdoing it would be fine.

Actually, one thing I must ask, is there a comparison anywhere of the lighsabers from all six films? They change every film, I know, but a side by side would be helpful. I don't mean just screenshots from each film side by side, either, I mean like a fanmade six lightsbaer comparison, based on each of the films.

Lightsaber blades?  Lightsaber handles?  How does one do that without screenshots side-by-side?
