It wouldn't be lit because sabers are supposed to have a "dead man switch" - they turn off when you let go of them. Exception would be when Vader throws his saber at the gantry Luke is on in Jedi, but there you can say that Vader is using the force to keep pressure on the switch so he can throw it. Any other time we see someone lose their saber - Vader killing Obi on the DS, Vader disarming Luke in the carbon chamber, Maul killing Qui on Naboo - the saber powers off when the user lets go of the hilt.
But, my point remains that it can be shown going out the window with Luke powering off as it goes, since the blade retracts upon power down...it doesn't instantly disappear. That allows us to have a visual of the saber going out the window that also makes sense in the way sabers operate.
